That was sort of the nature of the question. I realized that most people didn't like Linkin Park, so I was asking about which video negated the majority of that boiling hatred ^_^
About the narrow mindedness, yeah, I guess that's true. But it's better that people face their shortcomings and try to defeat them than to ignore them, so I feel that if I can bring it to a couple of people's attention than I might have made some difference.

.... maybe not :(

It was sarcasm.
trythil wrote:Other questions, like "how do I make AMVz" or "fuk I need 31337 DBZ FOOTAGE NOW", are just so inane that whoever made them deserves to be taught a lesson with a swift verbal impaling. (Standard answers: Read the guides, read your editing program's manuals.)
No. I'm afraid I just simply disagree. No matter how bad they are, no matter how much they bring it upon themselves, it's the duty of the mature to avoid abusing anyone. (imho, of course)
Everyone has the right to be here, and there are no terms of service. We really can't in any fairness say what "the right way to use the forum" is, (aside from the rules, of course) so to look down upon a LBZ/newbie creator is unfair (imho, of course :D ) We may simply have conflicting opinions on the subject, in which case we may never come to a proper solution, but I encourage you to think of newbies as real people too :D .
And most importantly of all, remember, you too were once a lost little newbie, just like all the rest of us.

I consider myself a newbie, too. I've only put out two videos, I'm still learning the ropes, and God knows how many mistakes I've made.

At the same time, I really don't like people who ask questions that they could more easily answer on their own. People who don't put even the slightest hint of attempting to help themselves BEFORE asking their question are people who I scorn.

You're right -- everybody was a newbie once. But there are newbies that search as far as they can for an answer before giving up, and then there are newbies that act as if they deserve the world on a silver platter.

People have been trying to do this for ages, and it hasn't worked. People are comfortable in their narrowmindedness. I include myself in that statement, though I try not to be narrowminded. It's even more pronounced on the internet, because there are no consequences. "Why should I change for you if i'm never going to meet or talk to you?"

I think this is probably more a function of the nature of the Internet than of the forums/AMV community. But yes, it is true that some would to lazy to bother with their own time, but it seems that a lot of the not-so-lazy newbies get wrapped into that same package. There are those that get lucky, like me, and don’t ever really have the misfortune of being flamed as an early newbie trying to get your feet on the ground. But I think that the larger majority of people really do get randomly flamed for such innocent things as "Hi, I'm new and I just wanted to say 'hi!'" Now, I don't consider this in any way destructive, or wasteful of anyones time. Do you?

Funny, Nailz and I were just having a discussion about that last night in the chat room (I'll get you someday Nailz... ) Anyway, if you acknowledge the problem, and you acknowledge that you are part of it, why won't you try work on it and accept those around you. A very wise person once told me that the best way to be part of the solution is to stop being part of the problem. I believe it, and I think if you understand all three of those points (There is a problem, you are part of the problem, the solution is in not being part of the problem) then you really have to accept your responsibility and change your attitude. (I’m sorry, I don’t want to come off as a psychologist, but I think the more individual forum veterans I can get to stop flaming the more peaceful our forum can be)

I do.....they could talk in the chat room for that.....unless their whole reason was for people to flame them, cause some people have fun pissing other people off.

You'll have to point me to some threads that are like that. I've searched every sub-forum that might have such a thread in it (excluding Off Topic and Way Off Topic, as those are the cesspools of this forum anyway, and you'd expect to find nasty stuff in such places.)

Anyway, to answer your question:

Yes, flames like that are wrong. There is no reason why somebody should be attacked for a greeting.

However, I stand by my opinion that some retorts can be well-deserved.

See, this is what I was trying to say. People don't think like this, because the Internet is a no-responsibility no-consequence area, for the most part. People don't think they are responsible for anything.

I do try not to flame people for the most part. The thing is, the newbies that really deserve it are the ones that get the most publicity. I try to only flame (reprimand?) those who are stubbornly ignorant despite efforts to help them, or who post without simple common-sense actions like reading the post titles on that one page at least. There are many good newbies that post intelligently, but the bad ones are the only ones who get noticed.
