There really shouldn't be any decoding differences if your computer and codecs are up to snuff, VBR is equally as supported by the windows decoder and the lame decoder as CBR and ABR are ( say that 80 times fast omgrofllolol backon)

But you know, sometimes theres just no substitute to using a good old command line and then muxing the MP3 into the .avi file.

Desynch usually comes from a weak Video card or out of date drivers;
however I will agree that the Audio should play normally and it should be the Video that fall's behind if the Video card is weak!

I've just never heard of the Audio falling -behind- the Video
( that's a new one on me! )

Now . . I have noticed that the newer the operating System - the longer it takes to start the Video; but . . . desynched Audio?

please explain 8) now you've got me curious 8)

no, VBR shouldn't be forced into a vfw container like avi. Directshow can play vbr audio but parsing an avi with the stuff can throw off synch like seen here.

Do you read the posts above you before you post? There is a reason the video and audio de-synch. Read and drink deeply of the knowledge placed before you.

CAN throw it off.

I've never had the problem. JSR was VBR, I never heard about synch issues.

well yeah if you do that it'd mess up. Something about how the frames in VBR are written differently as compared to CBR and ABR.

We were bored and took 7 computers which we thought were optimized and
dropped the AMD Barton Processers for Duron 950's
dropped the ATI video's for Trident 9680's
dropped the Yamaha audio's for SoundBlaster/Crystals
and yup - BOOM!!! desynch Video everytime.
It wasn't until the Video cards were less than 4meg that this begin to happen.

These test's were conducted using different operating systems on each computer:
Win95, Win98, Win98se, WinME, Win2k, WinXP and Mandrake 6.5
All computers had 512meg dual sticks of RAM.
All computers had 40gig Maxtor Ultra DMA 100 hard drives.
All computers were configured with the same Codec's and Video's to play,
and yet not one of them had any problems of the Audio falling behind the Video!

- This is why I said, "ok 8) now you've got me curious 8)
because we could not re-create this desynch Audio error! - sorry!

your thoughts ???
