one last thing: if you're running Win2k, go into device manager, and check the advanced properties on your secondary IDE chain. Make sure that both drives are set to "DMA if available" and not "PIO only" They will run a lot faster, and use a lot less processor power while doing so.

2k has a bug that defaults to PIO, XP doesn't seem to have that bug, and I have no idea about win98 variants.
