FINE THEN, I'LL BE SERIOUS, STOP WHINING!
After reading this thread, it has come to my attention that my trolling/flaming/asshole level is "lovable scamp", although I am not very loved...except by Fyrt. I LUVS U 2!
I frequently create crappy pics in MSPaint and share them with you all, just for whoever might get a chuckle out of it. True, I do it mostly for myself, but I'm not too disruptive with it, so it's not that bad.
I may "flame" or "troll" people, but only those I feel deserve it. Those people include (a) Those who piss me off, (b) People who are dumbasses and deserve it, or (c) People who are so "whatever" that they can't take a joke and deserve to get pounded into the proverbial ground for being such ignorami.
I consider myself to be intelligent, and I use that intelligence to figure out how to be incredibly stupid. It's like a sort of instinctive reverse-engineering. However, from what I can tell, most people cannot see the comedy in this nor can they see through my little joke. To clarify; no one could be that stupid and be serious without passing out at the keyboard due to the inability to type and breath at the same time.

This place is such a shit-hole.

Same issue, slightly different viewpoint...AbsoluteDestiny wrote:...The method of moderating the forum so far has presumed number 2 as well. There has been very much a philosophy of "let people do what they like but limit/moderate users who take advantage of their freedom to post."
However, I don't think this approach is really working. Whilst the site rules are good they do not stop milder forms of flaming and trolling on the forum - there's only so much you can moderate and a lot will pass under the radar.
What was created as a forum to benefit the community has turned into a forum that wants to benefit the individual members... and to be honest it's far too easy for a member who is in no way interested in the community to sign up and cause trouble....
Sorry...can't link to the entire article. Tech Review requires a subscription.M. Schrage (Technology Review, March, 2003) wrote:You are a fool. You are a moron. Nothing you write is worth reading. Please go away and contemplate just how stupid you really are.
That’s neither my opinion of Technology Review’s readers nor the feedback I get from writing these columns. But those comments fairly represent the disgraceful level of discourse at such online publications as salon.com, slate.msn.com, and nytimes.com. Talk about lucrative opportunities missed. Talk about failed innovation. Talk about misunderstanding a medium....
More often than not, the postings that appear under the New York Times digital brand embarrass more than they enlighten. The logic and the language of the postings range from the infantile to the puerile. This state of affairs is sadly true for a host of other online forums that represent high-quality publications. Why? Apparently, these publications care more about editing online text than facilitating online conversations. They treat customers like readers rather than potential participants.
Anyone schooled in economics is familiar with Gresham's law: bad money drives out good. Well, indifferent moderating invites a Gresham's Law of Online Interactions: idiotic postings drive away contributors who have something interesting to say. The conversational currency is debauched, and that, in turn, is fueling the popularity of weblogs. Who wants to slog through screens of drivel in hopes of finding one or two worthwhile postings when some of the smartest and most coherent posters host excellent sites of their own?...

jeez, how many times has this topic been glossed over? For fucks sake, why bother flogging a dead horse, its only going to make a fucking huge mess!! That said, I'm bloody outraged at the banning of Panda, and the fact that NDW and his little posse of reprobates get away with just about anything they can think of. Reading some of the posts on this site send me into something that can only be described as a beserker attack! They make me want to throw the terminal I'm at out the window, and the one next to it, and the person sitting at the one next to it. Then I feel like going on a rampage of physical and mental mutilation against anyone I spot! Its sad to say it, but sometimes this forum ruins my week!! It really gets to me, when the wrong people get in trouble. Something DOES have to get done, and quickly. This place is breeding an arrogance and haughtiness that is frightful in nature!

wow!
I actually agree with what you said in principal, but dont you think you are taking the forums alittle to seriously ?
I mean come on the forums should be a place where we come together as amv creators and non-amv creators to blow off a little steam, get to no eachother, learn about eachothers opinions whether we agree with them or not. i do agree maybe we are beating a dead horse, but no one put a gun to your head and made you look at this thread or otherwise post in it.
im not one for postin in the forums, hell ive been here since last may and i think i have made a total of 50 post. But i still like to come here and see and read what the other members of the community think. wheather i think their opion is rediculous or relevant. What i think everone needs to do is take a step back from the forums for a while and come back to reality and realize that this is a a hobby, not a way of life. when the latter gets involved it is no longer enjoyable.

I think that something has to be done about the strayings of trolling and spam. But I also disagree on the part about how members who don't make amvs stick to the OT forum. I don't make amvs but I go everywhere. I would one day like to make an amv but am too poor to do so.
I can't really say I am outraged at what has been done because I have enough problems in my personal life. Either way, the stupidity of what has been done, really must stop. The OT forum is for serious discussions, expressions and beliefs all fit this category but in a controlled environment. (i.e. No religious wars, if you want a religious war go join the army against U.S.A. or Iraq or Korea or the inquisitions)
my two cents...
Oh yeah
Bring back Panda.
