I'm actually quite surprised how well the speech recognition works. It does screw up every once in awhile, but it's actually quite usable. I used the speech recognition to log into the site and to post this. It's definitely very unnatural to have to use this however I could see its usefulness depending on if you were crippled or something.

The only problem I ran into was that I was unable to dictate into the window of the forum. I actually dictated into notepad and then copied and pasted into Firefox.

I plan to upgrade to Vista, but I am concerned by the fact that it doesn't run premiere 6.x well, or so Madbunny says.

I tried it on an early build. You might be able to try it on the RTM (maybe a friends or something) version.
I'd be interested to know, since I kind of like ver 6.0 better than pro for some dumb reason.

You can also install a 30 day trial version of Vista by not inputing a cd key when installing. It is actually used as a loop hole for using upgrade editions of Vista without a copy of XP being installed. You leave the cd key blank and then can choose from the four versions to install. These go into more detail:

and

Extend the trial to 120 days
