Well it's time the master finally replies =p
I'm glad that the veteran checklist I made was enjoyed by so many. I made it pretty much on the fly from my memory of incidents on the AMV ML which pre-dated this site. I discovered that replying in depth to it did require a little research so I could make sure my memory was correct and provide a few fun links. Many of us were younger and said things I'm sure we didn't wholly mean. As others did I said some things back in the day that were not needed. If you see you're involved in one of the links below don't hate me it's all in good fun and we should all be able to laugh about it now ^_^
001) Pre-date this site in submitting to the conventions
Check
002) Not give a fuck
Check
003) Love to make AMVs but just too damn busy
Check
004) Paid out the ass for import LDs or had to find someone with import footage
I still buy imports but they're DVDs now and thanks to amazon.co.jp I pay less =p
005) Used VCRS for pre-production & post-production
As well as a RCA VHS camcorder!
006) Know that AG-1980 was the bomb
Old school fansubbers know. Respekt! One of the prime reasons this deck was so coveted was not only did it have a built in TBC but it had very good playback especially of EP mode recordings. To this day I have not seen a deck that would recover crap EP footage better since most of the industrial decks feature wider heads which are not as well suited for EP playback. Some of you laugh about EP but when you have someone transporting stuff between countries with baggage x3 footage was better than x1. I still praise EP for the luck that I actually got a copy of Cowboy Bebop Session XX.
007) Bought dub VHS just so you could get a small piece footage for that various video
As much as it broke my heart I went the save money route occasionally instead of buying the import even when I loved the show.
008) Believed at one time that there were too many Ranma videos and that this problem would never go away
How little did we know that the times would be changing. For the young ones here's the modern progression: Ranma->Eva->Bebop->Azumanga-> (Next step gonna be School Rumble imo).
009) Desire to ban weird al songs from conventions
If you weren't around you better ask somebody. Telling someone you liked their weird al vid could easily have been an insult.
010) What's the password to hawaii?
The first big AMV FTP repository. It became more public and advertised than the DV ftp had been and became the defacto place for the AMV ML to share their stuff. Despite the few times the server's password changed people still asked for it on a weekly basis. This unfortunately only got worse when Hawaii disappared (graduation) and Omar's Waldo mirror became the only ftp at which point people asked about the password on a daily basis.
011) You dowloaded from Mdenny
This is a memory test right? Mdenny is the e-mail for Matthew Denny who is the person who ran the Hawaii FTP. It was referred to as this because Mdenny signed his posts as Hawaii (where incidentally he attended university and we owe him a debt to this day for allowing us to leech off his win95 box through his campus' network).
012) Ability to provide better tech support for a Pinnacle DC10 or DC30 than the Pinnacle support line.
Even though I had a DC50 I could trobleshoot the DC30 with the best of them. Terry Chu still owned us all on the DC10 if my memory is not failing
013) You know that Eat it to Grave of the Fireflies was DQ'd for a reason superceding issues of what is considered wrong.
Takahata himself or someone from Ghibili was there that year.
014) Feel it is your duty to tell someone if a video sucks.
It was a different time. There were often "issues" many had with who won contests because of the fan voting most often used.
Your work sucks

015) Thought the Anime Music Video Creators' Webring was neato.
AMV Webring is out!
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/amv/message/439
016) You knew that a convention would contain a Brad Demoss entry before the convention even existed.
Episode 1 trailer imo
017) You had to worry about Macrovision at some point.
WTB VCR without AGC.
018) Remember the Beautiful People to Apocalypse Zero (aka Kakugo no Susume before it was released in USA) incident at A-kon.
A-Kon 97 featured the videos Joe Croasdaile had put on a fansub tape with Hecto's release of Kakugo no Susume.
019) If you used windows you encoded a video with Indeo compression.
Had a beta copy of my Gendo Shaft vid with this. I think one of the versions of Ted Cooper's Eva-Final Countdown first circulating the net used Indeo and mp3. Was one of the few early codecs people were putting mp3 audio with.
020) You remember Kevin Caldwell actually posted occasionally!
Proof that despite winning all the time he still sucked ^_^

021) Believe the old trolling threads were great flamefests and these young whipper snappers and their "contest drama" can't hold a candle to them.
Not just the contest trolling threads either! A simple request for a Kenshin video goes EPIC: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/amv/message/1314
BONUS
=====
Continuing by popular demand
022) Flying Erase Head for life yo.
023) Gerry Hsu
024) People would be in an uproar about the AX contest after it was over and would complain about how it was ran for weeks. Oh wait.... =p
025) Believe Sarah Brightman's Dive CD sales figures would not be possible if the anime Nadia did not exist.
026) amvreview site
027) The request "where can I download premiere 5.5" makes you crack a smile.
