Post by Corneria » Wed Dec 06, 2006 3:13 pm

Hi there i think this one can be solved with the author uploading a short prewiew on youtube (witch vould be linked in the video's page with a link)
what do you think 'bout it?

but at the same time, people wont get the full quality... and people on the tube tend to upload good videos (belonging to other people) there anyways, so yea.. O.o

also this site's management doesnt really like the tube, hence the word filters (look in the site announcements for the reasons why)

i think its a good idea >_>

just upload the preview version of your vid to youtube and make an indirect link from the animemusicvideos.org entry to the youtube link.

hell i'd probly watch more vids that way because it annoys me to download a video that turns out non-keeper material and have to go through my hard drive and delete it.

I think this could actually work out well, especially for people with slower internet connections, or limited harddrive space who still want to watch AMVs from this site.

It is easy enough to set up a streaming video server, You could even use this.

I definately thing the tube would not be a good idea, but the streaming video part as a preview, addition, or instead of a local link could be good for us.
Technology is moving in a direction where the .org should follow; I know on other forums I go to they don't like the .org because you can't click and watch; you have to download codecs and sometimes players, and it's generally "too technical" for the average viewer.

This site is great for editors, but it still isn't very user-friendly to viewers, and I think this would be a good step to take to close the gap a little bit.

Sorry for the necro, but this is a notable addition to the subject, I think.

Pandering to the masses is letting the stupid and lazy people win. There should be some standards left in place.

The bandwidth and processing requirements alone make this a non-trivial problem, all issues of software aside. The infrastructure to handle it really doesn't exist.

That mostly solves the bandwidth issue. That does not help the problem of having tens of thousands of videos that would need to be processed.
