WMM loves screwing with my audio synching

Post by starseekergem » Sun Nov 26, 2006 5:45 am

With WMM, some songs (all legal) end up with several minutes of blank space at the end. This means that if I don't play the video project from the start, the audio/video synching goes completely to pot. It makes making AMVs a real trial of patience. Can anyone suggest a way to fix this?

what format are the files in (.wav, .mp3)
its prbably a bad encode.

usually just reencode from the CD to .wav to fix

i fail to see how some extra blank sound could ruin your sync. Just cut out the blank bit at the end in timeline view.

Cutting out the blank bit doesn't help.

Converting it to .wav helps but I don't know how I can convert it back to mp3 since the wav file is 53MB.

I would try to avoid re-compressing an already compressed audio track (i.e. MP3 to WAV to MP3).

Ideally, you'd rip the song from the CD to a WAV file and edit with that. Then when all is done and finished, you can compress that WAV to an MP3 (or other format) to include in your final video.

If the music you are using is from an online store or source, chances are that it is either MP3, WMA, AAC (MP4) or some other audio compression format. In that case, re-compressing the audio is almost unavoidable so expect some quality loss.

Although, if the audio is originally a MP3 and you did not edit it in any way, you may be able to mux the MP3 into your final XviD/DivX AVI file (assuming you are not exporting a WMV from WMM) with VirtualDubMod.

Unfortunatly all of my videos are made in WMM since I haven't a clue how to use VirtualDub. The original mp3 rips all have a high bitrate so I couldn't detect any discernable loss in sound quality. I'm too lazy to clean out my room to look for the original CD and re-rip it as .wav. I'm just happy that the songs now work.
