but i guess what youre saying is that as long as i didnt win any awards and its not super old (to have been in last year's con) then its all good O.o

You got it! Sorry about the confusion! We wanted to note the specific terms of what an "old" video is, and so on, and so on, and so it may become confusing. . .

D'OH!
well you could have said, instead of entering cons, that it had to be created on or after that date... though i know that theres older videos that havent made the con circuit.. but yea...

either way I'm going to have to wait till after this weekend, as there are what? 3 contests that ive entered that are going on this weekend? O.o i think... so yea...

good luck

Yes, that format is most definitely acceptable! Sorry about not noting that, we were just coming up with the simplest solution for all entrants in general (since some may not know of 23.97 with 3:2 pulldown) and also a solution that would not give us too many playback or conversion issues, either. But to anyone who can pull off a most excellent progressive encoded file, fire away!!! . . . we were just concerned of anyone who pulls off a poor progressive file. . .
Actually, I will say in my experiences it's interlacing that people seem to absolutely suck at. A lot of the encoders make it relatively idiot proof, but if they edit interlaced and then output to interlaced.... It can get really, really ugly.

If you want a series to be longer just write fanfiction!(but don't make anyone read it)

DV AVIs are AVIs encoded specifically with a DV codec and restricted to 720x480, 29.97fps (NTSC) or 720x576, 25fps (PAL).

If your editing program can't export a DV AVI, Windows Movie Maker can. Just load up your entire finished video without having WMM cut clips, throw the whole thing onto the timeline, and export.

I can't make mpeg-2's I can make mpeg-4's but those are the ones that turn out crappy as in not playin well at all.

so far with the AVI there are more lines than usual.... aww crap.

and that ffmpeg encoder doesnt work well for me either.

I'm boned

Thanks for the assistance, Scintilla! It is much appreciated!

Yeah, MPEG 2 does indeed do the trick. We ask DV AVI since it is another format that is compatible on our system, so it makes for a decent backup format in case MPEG 2 doesn't work for someone.
