Would deletion be allowed under these circumstances?

Post by Melanchthon » Sat Sep 30, 2006 1:20 pm

Let's say I made a video using fansubs and uploaded it to Local. When (or if) the series becomes licensed, would a delete request be honoured? It's mostly an idle question, but I was curious anyway.

And no, I can't just use the R2s. There aren't any; the series finale aired less than a week ago.

If you were going to upload a remastered version then yes, if not, no.

I'd say look for RAWs as they are of a slighly better quality.

And BTW Liscensing doesn't mean jack shit in terms of anything. International copyright law exists, so the only thing that would make any sort of difference to your video (quality) is when ANY DVDs come out (i.e. R2s), not when some company randomly accuires distribution and translation rights somewhere.

I can't be bothered. The subs are good enough anyway -- some DCT crap around the lines and of course the subs / notes themselves take up screen space, but it still looks better than half my DVDs.

Even though I advocate buying the DVDs wherever possible I'm kind of soft when it comes to R2-only series, because they're expensive, rarely available at a discounted price, and (unlike, say, editing programs) there are no less-expensive alternatives available. Also, I misused the word 'licensed'. Sorry about that. What I meant was 'when the series is given a stateside release date'. Just because it's licensed, doesn't mean it's seeing a release date any time soon.

It's not in any way logical, and I don't claim it is.

And so does the DMCA, and I don't care about breaking that either.
