I want to use the string tribute to Tool version of Sober but I want to have a few lines from the original song in various parts but I don't have a program to do that. In seperate files I want the opening "There's a shadow just behind me, shrouding every breath I take, making every promise empty, pointing every finger at me."
The first "I am just a worthless liar
I am just an imbecile
I will only complicate you
Trust in me and fall as well."
Then the "Something from the past has died."
Next "Trust me, trust me, trust me!"
And last I would like "I want what I want."
Obviously you would be credited at the end. I would really appreciate the help.

I would hope he's trying to pull the vocals from the original songs and then insert them into the string tribute version. Which is possible, but may or may not turn out very well depending on differences between the two versions. You can use Audacity to do the editing, check it out. It's a real good program for audio editing on a budget. Good luck.

If you're trying to remove the background music, get only the vocals, and add the vocals to your string version, I recommend Transcribe/ Audacity will also work. Be aware that any vocal/background separation you do will never be perfect.
