Post by ffviii_zell » Sun Aug 13, 2006 3:18 pm

ok yes like the title says this is most likely a stupid question but i have searched forum apon forum and have not found an answer to my question, so here it is, if i rip footage from video games like final fantasy once i am done ripping stuff off them will i still be able to play them again unharmed? i ask this because ripping sounds so harsh and i wanted to make sure so i didn't permanently ruin my games

"ripping" means "copying from media like CDs and DVDs." That's it.

No. Ripping CDs and DVDs produces large amounts of shrapnel, which, besides rendering your sources totally inoperable, may be harmful or fatal to an untrained operator. (Think of the 1996 Olympics bombing.) Additionally, the process of ripping is monitored at all times by some cartel (RIAA for CDs, MPAA for DVDs, SPA for games, ...). As much of this stuff is infected with copyright-circumvention technologies, your attempt to break them is in direct violation of U.S. law.

To elaborate on that last point, the United States of America recently obtained powers that legalize and extend its imperialist actions, which means that even if you are not a U.S. citizen, you can (and, given that the transparent aluminum metal collars that we're all wearing have the ability to track locations and transmit audio data, which can be used to divine text) it is likely that you will be confronted with severe civil and criminal charges.

Now, you could take all that at face value, or you could check here, which is a post in the General Video board, only a few items down the list.
