Where to get large upload permission?

Post by bacchusdionysus » Sat Aug 12, 2006 6:36 pm

I looked around the site, but I couldn't find an answer to how I obtain permission for a large upload. Could anyone help me out? My vid is about 139 MB. Also, any tips on how to make it around 100 or so would be welcome. Would I just have to delete a large section of it?

Make it smaller during the post-processing or the encoding. For large upload permissions, PM one of the Admins.

1. Compress your audio.
2. If you did that, clean the footage up a little (or a lot, if you're up to it).
3. If you did that, then your video might be plain hard to compress.

Does it use CG or anime? How clean is the original source? Is there a lot of action? What's the resolution of the vid? How long is it?

Sorry, I'm very computer dense, so I'm not quite sure how to do those things.

1. Um, when I export it using MPEG-2 it doesn't allow me to compress the audio. When I use AVI, the amv actually grew larger.
2. Clean it up? I'm not sure what you mean.

I'm using anime. As for being clean, I'm not sure. There is a ton of action, I ended up using a monsterous amount of clips. The music is a little less than 4 minutes. Resolution? (See, computer dense). I tried resizing it, but it stayed the same at 139 MB.

I tried resizing it during the encoding, but it didn't change.

How do I search for an Admin to pm?

from the content of his post, he probably didn't understand what you said. As for me, I was in a hurry and didn't actually write crap. So, to make up for it, Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides. After reading that, if you still have questions, ask around in the appropriate forums and we'll be more than glad to assist you.

Okey-dokey. Export the video in a lossless format (it will run a gigabyte a minute at least; this is normal), and then compress it using VirtualDubMod. This page will guide you through an XviD encode. It's a lot to take in, but just follow the instructions and you'll be fine.

When I say 'is it clean', I mean the overall quality of the original picture. Think of the difference between a DVD and an nth-generation videotape. What anime are you using?
Resolution is the size of the picture in pixels. DVD is 720x480, and unless you did any resizing that's what it's at now. It's not huge, but reducing the resolution is an easy way of knocking the filesize down. Try resizing to 512x384 (you can do this on export, though it's not ideal) and see what it looks like.

Cleaning the video involves using AviSynth to filter the video so that it looks good and compresses well. Don't worry about that too much for the moment though. I didn't know how much you knew about encoding, sorry.

Same here.

As for the AviSynth part, if you're up for the extra trouble (later on it gets easier, so don't worry) take a look here.
