Ani-Magic 2006 AMV Contest Rules Now Up!

Post by Skrasis » Fri Jul 21, 2006 12:35 am

Hey all!

The 2006 Contest Rules are now up. We have three AMV events this year at Ani-Magic the regular Contest the Amateur Screenings and the Adult Contest. You can get the submission form here http://www.ani-magic.net/pdfs/AM06EntryForm.pdf
Please use internet explorer to go to this page and download the PDF file.

Here are the rules for this year

The 2006 AMV Events:

AMV Contest (Pro)
“AMVs Under the Stars”
This is the traditional contest that everyone knows and loves. As stated in the letter above we will be going to have this event outside on Friday evening of the convention weather permitting of course. The event will take place on the main outdoor stage.

The rules for this event have not changed really at all.

Rules

No production logos / bumpers. Nor any kind of MTV style text. Each video will be properly introduced during the contest. This also gives the contest a clean and uniform presentation. Quality of the video will be a factor in it getting shown or not. This means no downloaded fansub footage!

No subtitles unless it is part of the AMV for example the dialogue in the beginning of “Tainted Doughnuts”. We will not put a maximum time limit, within reason, meaning I will not accept anything like 15 min but be aware that anything longer than 5 min people will start getting antsy and looking at their watches.

-This is an Anime Music Video contest that means no live action music videos. Video game footage is allowed, for example Final Fantasy.

-Do not send in an AMV that is over a year old. Although it may be very good we like to keep the AMVs fresh. So anything that was made before Fall 2005 will be disqualified.

We will accept as many submissions as we can that meet the qualifications into the contest that will fill 2 hours. In the event that we receive more submissions that go over the time limit the AMV staff will decide which of the videos will be shown at the contest. If it does not get selected for the regular contest we will place it into the AMV Screenings event so it will still be shown. All of the contestants will be notified of the finalist results before the contest.

Formats Accepted
-We will be accepting submissions on CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-+R and RW. If you are going to submit your entry on disc as probably most of you are these are the formats we prefer. MPEG-2, MPEG-1, AVI, VOBs. These are the easiest for us to deal with, as we will be the entries onto an authored DVD.

-No closed codec like Windows Movie Maker. Please use the standard NTSC 720x 480 resolutions; also do not send us authored media, just a file on the disk will do. You may put more than one video on a disk. Title each file the title of the AMV. With all submissions please leave a blank buffer around 5 seconds before your video. This gives us some space between videos.

How to Submit
There are two ways to submit for this contest. You can either mail it in or submit electronically through FTP.

FTP – To submit electronically make a .txt file and put in all the info that is requested on the PDF form. E-mail this file to amvcontest@ani-magic.net Once we have verified your info we will reply back with all the FTP info for you to upload your video. You will be given two weeks for upload this video if you do not upload we will close the account and you will have to request for the ftp upload again.

Mail in – download the PDF form and fill in the answers electronically then print it out and mail it in along with the submission to:

Ani-Magic AMV Dept.
20308 Tamara Pl.
Santa Clarita, CA 91350

Categories, Categories and more Categories
We generally do not like to specify categories before the contest this so we can mold the contest to fit the videos we receive if we find that there are an abundance of Upbeat romance videos and slower dramatic videos we will put them into different categories instead of lumping them all into one “Drama” category.

AMV Screenings (Amateur)
This is our new event that we are starting. The purpose of this event is to show any person’s AMV if they submit it. This event will actually span several days. We plan on it being about 1 hour each day of the contest in one of the video rooms. If we get more videos than we can show we will attempt to expand the AMV Screenings slot.

If you are just starting out making AMVs but would like your videos to be seen and do not want to submit it to our regular contest you can send it here. No matter what it will be shown to an audience, videos shown in this event will not be up for any awards.

Rules
There really are no rules for this contest. The only regulations we have are that the video not have an excess of nudity or profanity. Have common sense, this event will be open to anyone wants to sit down and watch! If you submit to this event and we believe it to be too much for general viewing you will be contacted and asked if you would like it placed into the Seijin (Adult) Contest. We may also bump your video up to the general AMV Contest if we believe it should be shown there. You will be contacted if we do this.

How to Submit
Due to the amount of videos we expect to receive for this event will not be able to have FTP electronic submissions. All entries for this event must be mailed in. Download the PDF entry form and fill it out electronically. Then mail in the printed form and your video to the following address:

Ani-Magic AMV Dept.
20308 Tamara Pl.
Santa Clarita, CA 91350

Formats Accepted
Because this is a general viewing event you can submit any format you would like with the exception of VHS. We will take CD, DVD. We will also accept any codec as well. That includes, DivX, MPEG-2, Quicktime, Windows Movie Maker Format etc.

Seijin Contest
Adult 18+ Only

That’s right, the popular event from last year will be back as its own separate contest. You will only be able to attend this event if you are over 18+. Let me repeat this. YOU MUST BE 18+ OVER TO VIEW THIS EVENT. If you are planning on attending please please please remember to bring a valid government ID with your birthdate on it to verify your age if you wish watch. We had to many people last year not able to watch because they forgot their IDs. We will be really strict about this NO EXCEPTIONS.

This contest will probably take place Saturday night sometime after the Cosplay contest in one of the video rooms. Since this is a contest there will be awards, most likely in the form of a trophy.

Rules
Rules? There are no rules for this contest. That’s the point of an adult contest. The only rule BRING YOUR ID IF YOU WANT TO WATCH!

Mail in – download the PDF form and fill in the answers electronically then print it out and mail it in along with the submission to:

Ani-Magic AMV Dept.
20308 Tamara Pl.
Santa Clarita, CA 91350

Formats Accepted
If you are electronically submitting it please use MPEG-2 its easier for us to put onto the final DVD. We will accept AVI files but be mindful that we will not accept very large file sizes over FTP as we do not have that much space on our web server. However if you submit through mail you can submit using CD or DVD. MPEG-2, AVI, MPEG-4, Xvid. Please no closed codecs like DivX or Windows Movie Maker. We will not be accepting VHS as we do not have the means to convert it.

Yes by Windows Movie Maker I ment WMV I wanted to be clear about the program is what I ment. But WMV can still be used for the AMV Screenings.

The deadline for mail in submissions will most likely be Friday, September 15th. The FTP deadline will probably be Friday, September 1st. These are not set in stone as of yet but they are pretty close.

As far as the PDF form goes, it was working I will have to contact the webmaster to find out why it is not showing up but if you go to the form page with Internet Explorer it will prompt you to save it as a file, you can then download it and fill it out from there.

I'll be entering the contest.

Any word if they fixed the AC in the video rooms?

Yes the main building where the Dealer hall and the video rooms where last year has been renovated along with new AC. Althought this year we are trying to have the main AMV contest outside this year on the main stage Friday night. We think this would be better cause we will have more space for more people to watch, a bigger sound system etc.
