Ma Belle and I will both be at AFO, and I'm looking forward to meeting other creators and watching the contest. I'm also really looking forward to this panel!

genestarwind21122, I've been on a panel with Aquasky in the past (back at Anime Express IX), and I must say, you couldn't have a better partner to be running a panel with. We'll be photographing the con as press for my website, AnimeBelle.com... We plan to be at the panel taking photos, if they don't do something awful and schedule the panel up against a main event we have to be at. :evil:

If anyone does get any definate information about a contributors breakfast/lunch/dinner/whatever, or any kind of gathering, please make it known! We'd love to have an opportunity to meet everyone.

Keep an eye out here in the next few days as more information will be posted. We have the panelist we need for the panels. I hope to see you guys there. Enjoy the con and I can't wait to see what is at the contest this year.

Btw I was curious, how did the flow of the contest go at the past conventions? What order do they show videos in? (by author? by catagory? random?). And how in depth do the judges go in commenting on the videos?

Last year when I went they showed the videos in random order for the ones that were submitted and did not finished runner up or winning their category. Then they showed the runner-up of Romance/Drama and then the winner. Then the same for Action and Comedy. As for commenting on the videos I don't recall them saying why at the convention. That could be something you could email them to do when they hand out the awards this year.

I don't really recall any conventions doing anything like that (except for AWA, of course)

usually they just play the amvs, and that's it..( though, I think metrocon 2004 did some announcements before each winning vid )

Wow, I haven't been in an AMV contest in two years and its changed that much? I really don't like that format at all, I like the old format of displaying each video equally in each catagory and then annoucing the winners at the end.

It gets your hopes up and slams them back down when you find out that the winners are the last ones played. >_>;

AFO only has the contest played once and it is on Sunday around 2pm. So that is why they have this set up. I actually like it because you never know when your video will show up. So your kind of inticipating when your video will be shown.

A lot HAS changed. I remember when the contest was right after the cosplay contest on Saturday.

I hate anticipation. It gets me too worked up and I take it hard if I don't win, meh. I like the more 'ordered' way.

though I'm not really expecting any prizes from this one :P

Last year for winning Best Action I got a plaque for it. Just having something to be down by my computer gives me even more inspiration and knowing that it is possible to win at a convention. Ladymercury I tell this to everyone and many people here forget this that this is a hobby and we do it for fun. Sure the contest are nice to compete in but you make the video because you want to. You make the video to the best of your ability to see how much you improved. The contest are sort of like rewards in there own way. For working hard on the video you get your video played at a contest sometimes, or at other screenings of the convention. See I like getting my video out to contest for people to see my video and to enjoy them. Let them have 3-4 minutes where they can be entertained by something I have done. Anyways good luck at the contest.

On the other side there are people who uses this as practice for their video arts carrier field. They still choose that carrier field because it is something they want to do and it is fun.

The way they do it works well. When you show all the videos and then show the winners again, the audience leaves early. I've seen it happen on more than one occassion - once people have seen all the entries, they just up and walk out. At Megacon, nearly two-thirds of the room emptied out before the winners were even announced. That's why they leave the winners for last. It's a good system.
