Brand new AMV maker with some questions

Post by Jasta85 » Fri Jul 07, 2006 5:55 am

if this is in the wrong section i'm sorry

hello, i have been watching amvs off of animemusicvideos.org for the past few years and love this site. It is now summer and i got loads of free time on my hands so i figured, what the heck, i might as well attempt to make an amv. right now i just have the basic windows movie maker, i'll just stick with it for now and after my first attempt i'll then decide whether or not to upgrade.

so, for WMM specifically here are a few questions.

1. subtitles, i wanted to try and have a few little statements in my amvs, mostly just little comments like "WTF" when something really crazy happens. I know there is the titles and credits feature but it has the words right in the middle of the screen and i wanted them like normal subtitles, at the bottom. any way to do this?

2. is there an easy, or less painful way to synch motion and sound together properly? it took a long time just to get a few seconds of sound syched the way i wanted it with the video, and ive still got 2 minutes of song left.

3. there is a feature called automovie, which has an option in it called "music video" but i cant find a good description of how it differs from the normal setup. what does this do?

4. is there a tool somewhere that lets me play clips in reverse, i mainly wanted to use this so that i could make a person look like they were doing the same movement over and over again.

5. any other helpful hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1. there is an option in the title animation choices called subtitle that will overlay test near the bottom of the frame.

2. What is your current method? with WMM its just lay and pray :P

3. Just use it and see what it does - i just use it for fun sometimes but if your serious about making an amv this should not be an option.

4. not that i know off - best method may be to use other free progs like avisynth

5. go here if you wanna read up on how to do things with WMM
http://www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Forums/Default.aspx

just mess around with the program heaps so you can learn how to use it efficiently.

Its not for the experts now is it? the guides are there to help the n00bies and if they read them on the main members page then maybe we would stop getting these really dumb question from first timers...

I often need to check out portions of the guides for skills I have not learned at. Just because I've been at this since late nineties and am a guide writer myself does not mean I know everything. Or even a fraction of what's out there. I know what works for me, and as there are dozens of programs out there, another guide writer may have found a better, faster, more efficient (or cheaper!) way of doing the same thing, so it behooves me to pay attention to the guides. The guides are for everyone; no one has all the answers.

Next time you want a new member to read the guides, you may wish to link them, or link my thread here.
