Totally new at making AMVs!!!!!

Post by rwgirl » Sun Jul 02, 2006 4:02 pm

Hi everyone! Okay, I enjoy watching anime music videos and now I would like to make my own. But there's one problem, okay, I've got the "how to" guides, but I have NO clue whatsoever on what computer software or hardware to use or if I even need one or not. So....... yeah, I'm pathetic  Please by all means, let me know if these are absolutely stupid questions okay^^

Please note: I'm going to be using only DVDs for my AMVs

1. What computer programs do I need to make AMVs with?

Okay, I've got Paint Shop Pro 5 and Animation Shop!!!! Will these types of programs work or not? And if not, what's the best program to get when it comes to making AMVs in your opinion?

2. I know about the capture card and all, but how do you capture what you want? Does a video capture card catches music too or just video footage? If I don't need a video capture card, how do you capture the video and music(if it catches music also) without it?

3. When it comes to making AMVs, do you like, do the anime first and then the music, do you do the music first and then the anime, or is there a way to do both at the same time? If there is, how so?

4. During the process of making the AMV, do you mute out the characters voices while doing this or do you leave it like it is?

Well.... that's all of my questions, please help me!!!!!!! :(

Umm... No... Pain Shop Pro 5 only makes pictures. You want a program like Windows Movie Maker, Adobe Premier Pro, Vegas, ect. Windows Movie Maker should be on your computer, and you can get a trial of Adobe Premier Pro. Since you are new, I would suggest using Windows Movie Maker.
2. I know about the capture card and all, but how do you capture what you want? Does a video capture card catches music too or just video footage? If I don't need a video capture card, how do you capture the video and music(if it catches music also) without it?
It captures exactly what shows on your television, but you can change some settings on some cards. If you have dvd's, then you can just use DVD Decrypter (if you have a DVD-R drive) and Virtualdub to get the footage from the disks. There' s a how-to guide explaining this.
3. When it comes to making AMVs, do you like, do the anime first and then the music, do you do the music first and then the anime, or is there a way to do both at the same time? If there is, how so?
You can do both at the same time on most software programs. For example, on Windows Movie Maker, you can place the music track first, and then place video clips on top of the music track.
4. During the process of making the AMV, do you mute out the characters voices while doing this or do you leave it like it is?
Yeah, you do, unless you are trying to make a digital effect. In windows movie maker, there is a volume button that will take music from either the video or the audio. You will need to do the audio.

That about sums it up. PM me with more questions if you need them.
