Which deinterlacing method should I use?

Post by Aki Ameko » Thu Jun 15, 2006 12:31 am

I'm working with Sailor Moon SS DVD footage, and as far as I can tell, it's a hybrid source but mostly NTSC interlaced. Some of the methods in A&E's guides under Pure Interlacing>Adaptive Motion Compensated Deinterlacing seem to work alright, but I'm having trouble picking one.

So, I was wondering if there was anyone else who's worked with this particular footage. What'd you pick and how well did it work?
Working on my first AMV! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Don't deinterlace, IVTC instead.

You wouldn't have this problem if you just downloaded fansubs.

Oh yes, and then I'd have to deal with crap like low image quality and subs in the way of my footage. Not to mention that since making vids is technically illegal, the LEAST I could do is buy their DVDs rather than downloading it. Thank you Captain Obvious, but I prefer the method of the guides. :D

IVTC... Must not have gotten that far in the guides yet, I shall continue reading.

Ok, I still don't know what you mean by IVTCing it... The guides don't mention anything about that as far as I saw. XP

inverse telecine. It's where you fold the interlaced frames back together to get a 24fps result.

Your best bet is to start here: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... etb3a.html

I've never worked with Sailor Moon footage so I have no idea what kind of interlacing it has, so be sure to read through it carefully. Not all sources are exactly alike, and although an IVTC might work for most sources, it might make some sources look worse and not deinterlace at all. So, just experiment for a while.

BTW, this guide is assuming that you're using AVIsynth to process your footage. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, start here: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... eoget.html
