Limitations on original animation
Just curious here what are the rules on original animation? The site would only accept original animation anime related?.
But what if someones drawing style doesnt look like anime?
I guess it would be logical that only anime related stuff is allowed but i just wanted to make sure.
thanks.

The standards here are very odd and often contradictory. Anime, by the org's standards, is something produced for a Japanese audience by a japanese company (not a style of drawing). Original animation is also accepted, but given it does not appear to follow those initial rules, I don't see why any original animation would be prohibited. I mean, this isn't based on art style; if it were, American cartoons that tried to look like anime would be allowed - and they're not.
Unless a double standard is going to be enacted, I think you're fine with whatever you draw.

It's not that we are using trying to use a double standard, more than that it's still in debate on what exacly is acceptable in original animation related to AMVs (we are split on the topic)... As AMVs keep diversifying, it's harder to give people a black and white definition...
We try our best to accomidate what we can, is it a perfect system? No... But this is still a fan site that run by fans and we don't have the time nor the desire to have it become a huge administration overhead

So, what would the answer be?Vlad G Pohnert wrote:It's not that we are using trying to use a double standard, more than that it's still in debate on what exacly is acceptable in original animation related to AMVs (we are split on the topic)... I believe that so as long as the original animation is either anime-style or related to or based on an existing anime it should be acceptable. If "based-on existing anime" animation is of a totally different style than the original, it should be OK as long it is still recognizable as being derivative (e.g., super-deformed or otherwise highly stylized versions).
This should be a logical filter since the site is called AnimeMusicVideos.org. Desho?

Not with the definition of anime as it has been established here in the past, though.Willen wrote: This should be a logical filter since the site is called AnimeMusicVideos.org. Desho?

As posted in the announcement area, the use of Original Animation in AMVs is based on a case by case basis.. Generally it's not a problem unless the video is almost all made up of Original Animation where this criteria is applied.
As you can see by this thread, there can be endless debate on the issue (now you see why it's debated amongst even us)...
In terms of a filter. I suppose that would be real nice if the computer could just make all the decisions.. Works great for black and white cases, but not for grey areas... Really, that's when a human still have to make a decision
.. And once there is a filter with artificial intelligence, then we are all domed and the point becomes moot...
So for now, unless there are any further questions (as this thread is under Site Help), then that where things stand. If anyone wants to debate it further or make suggestions, that can be done in Site suggestions
