Help! Newbie with an upload problem!! >.<

Post by Taochi » Thu Apr 13, 2006 5:14 pm

I have been trying to upload the Amv I made over and over, but whenever I try to drag the video file over to the brower window, it claims that the server isn't connected or I require permission to place files within the ftp folder. I have also tried using the ftp server filezilla and that only confused me more. >.< You can see the file and description I created for it...the name of the Amv is 'Pon De Replay -Anime style-'. I would greatly appreicate some help... :(

I forgot to mention! Whenever it says that the file IS downloaded, it is onle 0 bytes in size, in other words, there's no video at all. Why might this be? Thanks!

sounds like a firewall problem.
Try turning off your firewall (or turning on passive mode in filezilla)

I tried what you suggested but it doesn't seem to change anything. It still comes up a 0 byte file. Whenever I would see the file in the Fillzilla directory, it would already be an empty file, so I would try to drag the full untampered video file from a seperate window to the directory, to replace the 0 byte file. Unfortunetly, it would declare that a tranfer error has occured and cancelled.
I noticed something when I was trying to upload it again, the file is classified as a 'Windows Media video/audio file.' The video was created with Windows media player so I converted it into a 'Movie file' there. Does that make a difference? Thanks!

shouldn't make a difference... wmv files upload just the same.
(I think you mean you made it in windows movie maker...which turns out wmv files)

You may have to re-export your video though...failed transfers seem to kill the file that you tried to upload.

I went through this uploading my second amv. I had my firewall on and couldn't connect to kero, after I tried to upload I noticed that my 50MB file was reduced to a few KB

so make sure that you have connected to kero before trying to upload.

-Bonks self on head- Movie maker, yep that's what I meant! heh..

I'm sorry to keep bothering with this but...this may sound dumb, but I'm not sure how exactly to tell if the server is connected. When I open up the Fillzilla service window, it says I HAVE been connected and then retrieves the video file from the directory but the file is 0 bytes. I then tried to delete the empty file and replace it with the other file like before but...the transer continues to fail.
Also whenever I try to drag the file over to the window connected to kero (like it explained in the 'AMV Org guide') the little copying window appears and runs for a few minutes without the bar filling showing it's progress in copying the file, but then a window appears saying the server connection has been reset. It's just not making any sense to me...*sigh*

so when in filezilla it says at some point in time that you conencted to kero?
if it does, then your transfer may be timing out.
go to edit, settings, and under the connection tab, mak sure that the keepalive option is on.
right below that tab is firewall, try turning on passive mode (under the firewall tab)

if it says couldn't connect (or something like that. usually in red text)...you may have gotten the server side filezilla ftp (you need client side) if that's the case, then the pic in my sig will take you to the select mirror page for the client side ftp

before you try to transfer, check the file in your computer (not in filezilla) to make sure that it is bigger than 0KB (keep in mind that it must be under 100MB)
you may need to re-export from WMM

Thanks for the info! I think I'm getting closer, I'm up until the point in the Fillzilla client side I believe, and I checked all off the settings, it is on passive mood and the enable keep alive option is on. I also made another copy of my Amv from microsoft movie maker in case. It is 61 Mb in size.
When I try to drag it over, it continues to 'time out' even though the stay alive setting is on. I'm sorry for the trouble but...might there be a reason for this?

well...at the moment you've managed to go through all of my tricks...
I might be able to do something, it will be a lot easier if you tell me the specs of your computer and take a few screenshots
