Simple question about studios

I just wanted to ask, and I don't think it fits in any of the FAQ catagories... Are studios just for friends who want to be affiliated, or do you need to ask the admins? Do there even have to be multiple members? Call me stupid, but I'm just curious- I might want a studio

You need to ask someone with connections. he will send your request to the UN. They will decide if you are uber enough to open a studio.

If you want to join a studio, you need to ask a member first. Athough most studios aren't actively recruiting for new members.

Most studios are really just a bunch of friends that share ideas, co-create or just share webspace.

A great many studios are just one person (it's just a name to make us look cooler). Examples:
Kusoyaro Productions
Ninja Gaijin
Dark Moon Studios
Premonition Studios
and finally, the best one:
OMGWTF How Can I Be A Studio If I'm Only One Person Studios

Even I'm a one person studio!
