Ooo...I didn't even see I could do that. I just changed the source drive when I mounted the ifo using DAEMON. I rarely use WinDVD. ^^0DJ_Izumi wrote:You really should test DVDs on a software player before burning the disk. I know WinDVD can load a 'DVD from folder' so if you've authored a complete VIDEO_TS folder, you can load it in WinDVD and view it as a DVD to see if you've done everything right before burning.
Anyway, I played the folder in WinDVD and it played fine. There was plenty of room. So it must be just my tv, right?
I'm just worried that it may get cut off on the screen the judges play it on when I submit it. But I'm just submitting the mpg format, not the dvd format. I think I'll email the Otakon AMV mailing list to see if they can give me some input on the issue. Thanks!

Ok, I checked the file, it seems like there is nothing wrong. It's flagged correctly for 16:9, and it's sized WELL into the safe area. I authored and burned it twice to DVD. Once using TMPGEnc DVD Author and the second time using Nero Vision Express. Both produced DVDs that properly played the clip back at 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio. On my widescreen TV, with the correct player settings, it detects and displays it fully, no cut offs. On another TV, 4:3 AR, with the DVD player settings to either 4:3 Letterbox or 4:3 Pan Scan, it plays back properly, both times letterboxed, nothing cut off. So your MPG file is OK. It may be your DVD authoring program is doing something weird, since your trials on 2 different TVs, and I assume, 2 different players had the same text cropping effect.
At this point, I'd just submit the MPEG format file.

Ya know, I wonder if it's the jpg? The one thing that happened that was different when I rendered just the jpg to avi was that under options for saving the file, there is a check box that says "Fill up the screen (non letterbox)" or something like that, and when I was going to render the avi, it was checked. I unchecked it.Willen wrote:Ok, I checked the file, it seems like there is nothing wrong. It's flagged correctly for 16:9, and it's sized WELL into the safe area. The thing is, when I rendered the entire AMV, the box was never checked, but I wonder if for some reason the jpg clip itself still rendered as non-letter box? Because I saw when I rendered the avi, that the text was more squished and centered compared to the original jpg when I was rendering just the quote. But after I converted it to mpg, it went back to the normal letterbox look.
I dunno...I just wonder if something happened with the jpg when I was rendering the entire amv, like it didn't render as letterbox, but the footage did? It doesn't make sense to me.
Also in options, I chose the format NTSC DV Widescreen for just the quote. When I rendered the AVI, when I chose that format, the footage wouldn't render as widescreen, it would render as fullscreen. (I dunno, I don't get it....) So when I rendered the entire AMV I had to leave it on default, which is just NTSC DV, and then it would render as widescreen.
So what I'm going to do now, is take out the jpg from my amv, and insert the avi I made instead. Maybe that will make a difference?

Not sure if this is the cause, you did say the video plays back correctly on your computer.SailorWicca wrote:Ya know, I wonder if it's the jpg? Only way to find out is to do it. As long as the all clips have the same size and aspect, this might give you better results.SailorWicca wrote:Also in options, I chose the format NTSC DV Widescreen for just the quote.
