Questions about compressing audio..

Post by Ninjafox » Fri Mar 17, 2006 11:39 pm

Just a few questions about compressing audio:

1. Once you've finished making your amv and your audio file was a wav. , how do you compress your audio for final distribution ?

2. If your audio file was mp3 and you used that format to make your amv is their a way to possibly convert it then re-compress your audio for final distribution ?

3. If you just used mp3 format and when straight on and completed your amv, does this only effect the size of your final vid ?

I compress the audio and video after I bring it in VirtualDub. Use lame to compress the audio.

but HOW do i actually compress the audio, thats whats really confusing me. Do you compress the audio after you've finished making your amv or before you start? when i read through the guide (most of it) he says:

"Never directly use compressed audio for editing as video editing programs don't like compressed files. You have to convert your audio to uncompressed wav, no matter what ^_^"

im guessing he means start wif wav. format or u compress that wav. to lame, but if you compress the wav. to lame isnt it just the same by putting a lame file format straight away and editing with that??

No, what the guide says is that for editing, you should use the WAV file because many programs will act incorrectly, crash, or just be weird if you try to edit with a compress audio file such as MP3. After you finish making your AMV extract the audio as a WAV file with VirtualDubMod. THEN compress that WAV file into a MP3 file with a program like BeSweet. Finally, using VirtualDubMod again, you replace the WAV audio in the AMV with the MP3 version.

I think I'd better clarify:

1. Rip the music you are using from your CD with whatever program you usually use as a uncompressed WAV file. If your original audio source(s) is/are from a compressed audio format like MP3, then use something like Winamp to uncompress into WAV. Also, prep your video footage. (Like I need to mention that.)

2. Load audio and video into editing program and make the AMV. Export.

3. Depending on what program you used, you export your audio as an Uncompressed WAV separately, or use VirtualDub/Mod to extract the WAV audio from the (almost) finished AMV file.

4. Use VirtualDub/Mod to compress video.

5. Load WAV into BeSweet and compress with LAME into a MP3.

6. Use VirtualDub/Mod to attach (multiplex/mux) the MP3 to the finished video file. http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... audio.html
