Well, since I said I would and I haven't installed Paint Shop Pro X on this computer yet, enjoy the wonder that is MS Paint!

Unless your computer monitor is really out of whack, the images should give you a proper idea why resizing to 640 x 480 is recommended for 4:3 aspect ratio material. If you really want to make sure, break out your ruler or measuring tape. Hope this helps.

I should mention this to Zarxrax in the "guide sucks" thread.

I'm more accustommed to 720x480 because I edit at that resolution and get used to seeing it that way, but for the last few videos I've done, I just made sure that the display size in the MKV was set to 640x480 and so as long as VLC or mplayer gets used it'll display right, although WMP still shows it at 720x480.
But then, while the video is being shown at the correct aspect ratio, it's scaleing down from 720x480 to 640x480, which is stupid. Setting the displace size in the MKV container to 720x540 would not lose those 80 horozontal rows of pixels.

Actually, mplayer and VLC display it at 720x544, despite putting in 640x480. It just treats it as 4:3.

Yes.
