Yay.. ?

Post by Koopiskeva » Wed Mar 01, 2006 7:18 pm

So... reading through some of the euphroia ops..(yes i read them from time to time).. I found this little gem...
Remarkably this video uses effects as it should - enhancing the visual experience. While they are obvious, they don't draw attention to themselves or overpower the "narrative" as other videos do. Since you are using fansubs, I gather most of the reasons for using so much effects was to hide the low quality. Regardless, there are a lot of very creative techniques. As someone who just began learning about After Effects, it was very educational to pick out every effect and figure out how it was done - Blurs, Shatter, Masks, Film Grains, LightZoom, Earthquake, Lightning, Time Remapping, etc. - My absolute favorite part is the cross dissolves near the end and how they flowed seamlessly with the lyrics.

In editing all this together, you show a mastery of maintaining creative integrity without "using effects for the sake of using them." It could have been easy to get lost in all the mechanics of playing with the plug-ins, but watching how fluid everything syncs with the music, shows a great deal of focus. And speaking of the music, I found it quite catchy for a song spoken in German. Usually it is the music which carries the video, but when there are lyrics that most people won't understand...The video has to help to carry the "narrative". In this case, it does - brilliantly.
As action videos go, this is one of the best. Rarely have I seen such meticulous detail in restructuring an original concept from the existing story. As effects-laden as it is, the raw aggression complements the music well, and even for non-German speakers the pacing flows beautifully. Two things really stand out about it: The Effects and The Editing.

At first I was a little bit confused bcause he mentioned something about the song being in German, but I let that slide and kept reading... Then I reached that third paragraph... which is the same exact paragraph as the first... scrolling down I realized that he had just copied and pasted the same two paragraphs or so to make his opinion seem longer than it was...

The best part is when I find out that this opinion was meant obviously for whisper of the beast later on..

Sadly, I found more of these repeatedly copied and pasted ops on the page..

So, my question is.. what the hell is wrong with these people |: ?

eh? cen?

coppy + paste = higher usefulness score.. (though not necessairly more useful.)

and considering the masses ammounts of opinions you recieve on Euphoria i was thinking that maybe they thought you wouldnt notice... though this particular op doesnt seem to follow that... perhaps a mistake or something...

but as for the Whisper of the Beast part of it O.o maybe he mistakenly gave it to you because he clicked the wrong link on the 10% list??? and didnt care to read the video description O.o

I should copy and paste more often... I write too many serious reviews.

Maybe it wasn't copy+paste job... maybe they just got mixed up half way through the review... maybe they had some "issues"

I digress... it's clear not a cen.

Machine did that to me once. It was mega rofl sauce.
# **** (4 stars)

The most notable and significant difference is in the tone of the content of this anime music video. The characters are not defined by their personalities, but by a series of abstract concepts, their actions, their possessions, etc. Kenshin's internal struggle is truly internal, the only manifestation of it is the child's spinning top he owns, the only remaining vestige of his mangled childhood. The aforementioned is the measure of happiness and contentment, the presence of or lack of which is one of the most important themes in the series. Minor things like these tell the viewer so much about what these characters are feeling, because the characters themselves keep their emotions under tight control, Kenshin especially. Despite this, you can really see how realistic the characters are; although they are not "everyday people", they are extremely human.

At the heart of the music video is Kenshin himself, a young man who is seen as having the mind of a killer and the heart of a child. Kenshin's character seems straightforward enough he can cause an entire room of men to fall silent simply by picking up his sword, he keeps a stack of books in his room simply because they're good to sleep against, and kills his targets without either mercy or hatred. As he is shown, the music video paints him immediately as a ruthless, merciless killer rather than a hero. But we can see what is very nearly another character within him, he plays with a child's spinning top when alone, we know that his ideals and his happiness do not overlap and later we can even see what it is that Kenshin needs to be happy. In truth, Kenshin is a very carefully constructed character, each facet of his personality intended to create a realistic young man who could have really existed (Kenshin was, in fact, based on a real historical figure, a famous and ruthless killer of almost feminine appearance called Gensai Kawakami). The final question is whether Kenshin, having decided to devote his life to killing for the greater good, can still be saved, is a man still a human when he becomes a killer? That is the question that arose in my head after watchign this music video several times.

# Bad One idea that was executed without flaw. Ugg, I still can't believe I wrote this review. To be honest, you got me so into your video because you used Nine Inch Nails...and they happen to be one of my all time favorite bands. So bonus points fo ryou there. Hehe, I must say that I'll probably be one of the few who will understand since the song matched up really wekk with Kenshin. I had no Idea it would. Your going to give me a run for my money soon dude!

You actually have quite a few of those 'doubled-up' reviews.

Maybe people just want to tell you how much they it
twice,
or thrice
or 01001110 01001111 00100000 01010101 times. hehe

Otherwise: attention or most-usefulness for sure.

Is my Euphoria op still the longest/best?
The best effects are the ones you don't notice.
