in the first episode of pita ten kotaro´s mother is depicted as dying after pushing him out of the way of a truck, only to be hit by the truck herself. i interpreted this as being symbolic for her dying in giving birth to kotaro (those anime guys are subtle) and possibly this would explain his reticience regarding misha´s advances.

I have to admit that I'm not familiar with the show at all...but does it have to be a symbol? Can't she have died...pushing him out of the way of a truck? People do die that way too.
