So I've been drafted into teaching a class on AMVs....

As the title says, I've been recruited by the president of my school's anime club to teach a course on AMV making and the general theory behind them. Luckily she hasn't given me a deadline, so I have plenty of time to work on it. Besides explaining technical terms (AMV means animated music video, not anime music video, etc.) and show some examples of what I'm trying to teach, like how moving and not moving on certain beats creates and effect and matching the music, I'm not sure what else I should cover besides actually showing them the basics in the hope of the entire club turning out a completed video or series of videos in the end.

Does anyone here have any ideas for what would be good material or things to do? And in case it helps, the computers that we'll be using have some version of Adobe Premiere on them. Thanks.

Asking for help goes a bit better if you don't start off with confrontational statements in the forum you're asking in...

Concept-wise, i'd talk about story and mood for a bit, as many people (including myself, i must admit) fail because their story is undeveloped and/or their mood is undefined, wishy-washy, constantly shifting, etc.

It's probably best if you don't get into the actual technicalities of MAKING videos, but rather start off with things like how to be a better viewer. Explain about the site here, what tools are available to help find good videos, what sorts of things to look for when they are watching videos, etc.

Then finally, you might want to cover what sorts of things that they need in order to get started... what sorts of hardware or software, where to go for guides to walk them through the technical process, etc.

if your presentation is on animated music videos, a lot of the principles that apply to anime music video editing may also apply to animated music videos.

you could talk about how amvs are stylistically different from official music videos, and other fan-made music videos.
