Sounds... Mmm..

Post by [Mike of the Desert] » Tue Dec 20, 2005 9:02 am

I'm really not sure to where post this topic, so I'll try here, if it will have to be moved, I'm sorry for the trouble. =) I was asking myself something these last days.. Is there any place where I can get any type of sound? I mean something like "Crash" "Swooosshhh" or things that belongs to that type of sounds? :O Another example, in the beginning credits of a movie sometimes there aren't soundtracks in the background, but low sounds, creating some type of atmosphere. But this one is only a mere example. The question is the same as before. :o Is there any place where I can find *sounds*?

Companies used to sell CDs of sound effects in the 90s, and I'll bet they still do (but I certainly hope that they've increased the sound quality).

if you do a google search you should be able to find a lot of free stock sounds... i downloaded a bunch for a few live action projects over the past few years... don't remember where i got them though.

Try http://www.sounddogs.com/ they have what seems to be millions of sounds. You are supposed to buy the sounds from them for commercial use, but the have all their sounds in MP3 format that you can ‘sample’ them. The down side is the some of the samples are such low quality that you can’t even tell what they are (try listening to some of their foot step sounds, ouch.) But I can always find what I need with a little seaching.

Sony's sound group has this collection. High quality and costs $$$, but there are some samples to try out. (Also, beware the EULA).

Or search Amazon.com music for "sound effects".
