Firefox crashes when I try to enter a video!

Post by BakaNeko123 » Wed Sep 21, 2005 5:06 pm

When I try to enter a video, I only get as far as the Terms of Use and the page after before Firefox crashes and I have to force quit. Is anyone else having this problem? I run on a Mac OSX and Firefox version 1.0 if that makes any difference.

Firefox can't play videos as far as I know, I suggest you're better off using IE for the media content.

I haven't had this problem, but I was using Firefox 1.0.7 on OS X 10.3.9. I've since upgraded to Firefox 1.5, which seems to be much more stable. Try upgrading your Firefox; it might work then.

If it doesn't, you could try Safari, which should already be available in the Applications folder.

Also, make sure your system software's up to date. I've had major issues with certain sites resolved by installing updates.

*important*
before you install the updated version of firefox, uninstall the old one.
for all of it's browsing greatness unfortnately meant little (or sub-par) development of updating.

My firefox would work for about 2 weeks after I updated.

you may have to enable cookies (if they aren't already) to get past the terms page. (I'm not 100% sure, but the site might store a cookie that allows you to continue after you agree to the terms)

Yes it can.

However, you shouldn't be streaming the video data anyway.
When I try to enter a video, I only get as far as the Terms of Use and the page after before Firefox crashes and I have to force quit.
If you're referring to the "enter a video" page, well...that page is very bloated. So I don't think Firefox actually crashed -- it's probably just stuck rendering.

I use Firefox v1.0.7 and v1.5 on GNU/Linux systems, and the video info pages work fine for me, so I doubt it's a Firefox bug.

That wouldn't cause Firefox to crash. Did you even read the original post?

Actually, you're wrong about that. If the site stores a cookie that allows you to continue past the terms page and cookies aren't enabled, then at the very least Firefox won't function properly.

Also, I don't see how the "did you even read the original post" makes any sense, because at the very least Kariudo attempted to answer the question, whether or not he was correct. :?

That is not a Firefox malfunction. Rather, that is a logical consequence of denying a stateful machine the only way to save its state, stopping it, and then restarting it. You should know that if you know HTTP and the cookie model.

Firefox crashes or other internal program errors are Firefox malfunctions, and, as far as I am aware, there is no sequence of actions involving cookies on this site that would cause such a malfunction.

Yes, so did I. However, I have a far greater chance of being both helpful and correct.
