Post by IcyHotGoku » Tue Oct 18, 2005 8:50 pm

Hey,
I'm trying to render my amv as a wmv format, but it keeps coming out too big. Does anyone no how to render amv's so that they comes out less then 100mb with good quality, because right now mine at 110mb.

How long is your video, and what are your current settings? I assume you are working in WMM. That might be helpful in getting you some answers....

Personally, I'd try following these instructions for exporting and then follow the subsequent steps for compressing to something distributable.

(It's suggested that you use DivX/XviD or MPEG-1 for distribution -- WMV isn't as widely compatible and has issues with random seeking (the main reason I don't like videos that use the format), even though WMV9 really isn't bad compression-wise.)

With a length of 4:54, a video rate of 3 Mbps and Audio of 128kbps you'll always get more than 100 MB, no matter what compression you use. So in every case you must reduce the video rate to get under 100MB.

For the codec to use: MEPG1 gives you best compatibility (Should run on every PC, no matter what OS/codec/players installed), but not so good quality. DivX/XviD against WMV9: Personal tests have shown a better quality of WMV9 compared with DivX 5.2.1 at the same bitrates. For compatibility it depends how you define it. WMV9 runs with WMP for Windows ver. 6.4 (or 7, if special profiles used), so it can be played at nearly every windows installation without any additonal codec or media player. And that's the vast majority of PC out there. But people often avoid AMV in WMV format, because they have seen too many crappy vid's in that format, mostly produced with WMM and stored as "Video high quality", which is really low quality.
