Atlantic Records Hall of Fame (56k warning!)

Post by RamonesFan2020204 » Mon Oct 17, 2005 12:16 pm

This is a series of 4 wallpapers I finished last night. I know it's nothing fancy, I just wanted to show my appreciation for my all-time favorite record company. And I know some of these artists didn't make the charts when they were signed to the label (then again, some of the artists here didn't make the charts period!), but I still like the stuff they did, and the stuff they did when they were signed to the label. And I realized during the process I forgot some artists. Anyway,

It's probably because there in BMP format. Why couldn't you just convert them to jpeg format or something. There file sizes are freakin' HUGE!! I know one is over 2 megabytes. I cant see them either unless I right click and press view image.

He's pointing out that, unlike a lot of small independent labels (actually that's my editorial slant; Otohiko, if you would inform us on particular labels you had in mind), Atlantic has no mind for helping their artists succeed unless it helps the label succeed.

Atlantic had Coltrane, so I have to give credit where it was due. The only major I take real, serious issue with is Elektra, over their shoddy treatment of Spoon and Superdrag, two of the most overlooked bands of the 90s.

Anyway, to the topic: without the pictures I can hardly comment, but does anyone else notice how absurdly weak Atlantic's roster has been for the last 12 years? I mean, of all the bands in the last list, all are pretty awful except for CIV, and even CIV wasn't nearly as good as the Gorilla Biscuits or even Quicksand.

When were U2 on Atlantic? I thought they'd been on Island since their birth.

Atlantic's ATCO subsidiary was one of Island's distributors back in the 80s. The other was Warner Brothers. And also, I'm shocked to find another person here that's heard of CIV.

He was probably saying that labels in general are a bad thing. He was quoting Robert Fripp, and if there's one thing you need to know about Fripp, it's that he's against everything.
