Um I suggest checking out some anime soundtracks as a good number of them have good instrumentals to use.

Or if you want something more traditional you have classical music and jazz music as options. Few people use those although some tracks for these can be a bit long for an amv.

But seriously you need to use what screams an idea out to you. Listen to some music and you'll get an idea. What you gave is much too broad to really give any specific suggestions.

Apocalyptica has a ton of good instrumental songs, Dimmu Borgir has some great ones too.

You're a bit vague with 'kick ass iinstrumental', it depends on tastes. What does mean 'kick ass' for you?

Try DBZ's the Bardock's special movie theme or Battle without honor or humanity from Kill Bill's 1st OST, they're my favourite action bgms.

You might think this is weird, but listen to "Carol of the Bells" by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. ESPECIALLY if you have a snow scene in mind. "The Mad Russian" is good, too.

Death-Voice of the Soul
or any guitar solo from "The Sound of Perseverance"
He sees the faces of the dead, Guts are strewn from the children, Splintered bones poke through skin, Gratification through castration, Roasting parts for consumption.

check out jakob
it's more ambient rock, but it is all instrumental
"You obviously weren't around for my sixth birthday. "You can ride your new pony as soon as I finish attaching this rocket. And this extra fin. Oh and a couple of running lights. And a particle beam, etc..."
Lemme tell you, exploding ponies are no way to end a six-year-old's birthday party."
