How about preventing new users from creating new threads (they can still reply) for a certain amount of time after they create their account (or until they reach a certain post count? Stupid, garbled n00b threads irritate me... :?

Then they'd post their question/intro in a random thread.

I'm more for no posts at all for a week.

Although I suppose that would suck if someone posts up a video right after they join and then cant announce it...

Not to mention things like if they actually need technical help and stuff. I'm very much against this

That's when you search the forums and read the guides. Most of the time, you can answer your own question that way.

doom9 does exactly this, and it seems to have worked out pretty well for them.

I don't see enough n00b threads to actually bitch about them.

I don't think this should be enforced :/

I don't think new members are inhenrently dumb or anything, so it would be nice to give them the benifit of the doubt. However, i'd be all for suspension of posting privlages when it is warented (i.e. breaking the forum rules more than once with the same offence or even multiple offenses).

Even if I'm against the idea about don't let n00bs post for a week, I would completely agree with this kind of thing ->

For the first week, every time a n00b would be posting a new thread, the site could make appear to him a warning, saying things like "If you're asking for help about this or this, don't! There are sticky threads here and there exactly for help you.
