I consider many directions of music talented, and this is of less regard to me than music that appeals to me. There's a large variety of classical music that I don't really care for. There is a large variety of good rock music I don't care for. And there is, from what I can tell, many talented metal artists you like so much that just don't appeal to me. This is not a question of talent; this is a question of conscious and personal choice and taste.

My own musical tastes lie broadly in what I'd call "avant-garde", mostly odd, forward-thinking music. Much of it lies in music genres and styles variously called prog(ressive)-rock/metal, "art-rock", "avant-rock", dada-rock; fusion and progressive jazz is up my alley; I also listen to a fairly large variety of texturist alternative-pop sorts of music, and progressive electronic music. "Unusual" world music, and modern music with foreign influences is something I generally like. And there's a selection of classical, renaissance, and medieval music that I do like, thanks to my extensive exposure to it.

the point of my argument is that it seems to me that all pop-culture music basically completely lacks in any sort of musical understanding and talent, I realize that there other artists such as squarepusher, a techno artist for those of you who don't who that is, who is extremely talented at what he does, it just pisses me off that many musical artists are left in the shadows of MTV and V-H1 icons whose music is bassically a compillation of complete and utter shit, while Chuck Schuldiner's death was completely unheard of, and if you don't know wo Chuck Schuldiner is I pity your soul

I've been pissed about those sorts of thing for a while too, don't worry.

I've since given up on the mainstream. It's not worth the headache.
That said, there's just nicer ways of suggesting your artists than trying to make the others' favorites look bad

Dead... it happens to the best of us. The music lives on, usually.

Put it this way... if you stuck that music in everyone's ears, are you sure they'd like it? In my experience, a lot of people are not really prepared for many, many types of music; many can't be prepared at all because it may contradict the way they live.

Sir, each and every individual walking God's green Earth has his or her own taste in music, and each individual will define his or her own taste in music as "good music". For example, about 95% of what I listen to is Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B, and I consider most of what I hear to be talented. I consider Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B to be "good music". If what I prefer to listen to is, according to your argument, complete and utter talentless shit, then I'm proud to say that I listen to complete and utter talentless shit.

Keep in mind that many musical artists aren't really looking to join the MTV, BET, or VH1 crowds.
