ok...put it thru a few trial & errors....
there is no problem with the frame size which was the original issue...
instead i know am wondering if there is a way to preserve the file size...
or will it always increase dramatically....
i'm assuming this is b/c of the increased size of the video meaning more information etc...
the vid i took was 640x480, i resized it and put in vdub and referenced back to A&Es guide for xvid encode and got the final to come out at 123mb when the original was 76mb....
i know cuz im makin a dvd, this isn't that big but i was planning on fitting at least a couple hours on one 4gb dvd. i'm not sure if this will be feasable if each 5min amv will turn out to be 100mb once resized and re-saved.
any feedback/suggestions appreciated greatly.... :? :)

Well, the only thing I can think of atm is if you're using Adobe Encore DVD, to transcode the files to have a lesser bitrate. (it gives you several different bitrate options when you right-click on a file and go to 'Transoce')

i just noticed a bit of a peculiararity cuz i was using the XviD encode part of the A&E guide when i was resaving the .avs file i made. that was the one that would get no smaller than 120mb and whenever i tried to import it into Encore, it would say "abnormal error occur when trying to transcode"
i was highly pissed but i then tried something random. i just saved the .avs file using the huffy codec and the 1st 45 seconds of the file are 200mb    but it was also able to import into Encore.
i don't get it but will i have to use this way in order for my plan to succeed?

man this is getting tedious.

I'm not sure on what codecs Encore will take in, because I've only used MPEG2 encodes, but once Encore has transcoded them you can delete the file thats you brought into Encore because it saves the transcodes (because thats what it uses when buring the dvd).
If you go through with using the huffy files, it can still be done, but may become very tedious.

If you are attempting to play this DVD on a non DivX DVD player, the format cannot be DivX, or XviD, or any other codec of the sort. I believe (though i'm not certain) that your only choice is Mpeg 2 for a playable DVD...

Trancoding converts the file(s) you are wishing to have on the dvd to the propor MPEG2/AC3 video/audio format for buring... So really you shouldn't be restricted to what you first place into Encore.

Well, yes, that is true. Isn't the problem of filesize not an issue then, since the transcoded file will be larger regardless of the size of the imported video?

Actually, I'm not really sure. I've only used MPEG2 encodes, which were significantly smaller than the huffyuv's for starters, and after transocding they were very slightly smaller (a couple mb or so). Maybe go with that.

No, i'm saying that no mater how small you get the video file to be, when it's transcoded, it will change in size based on the video's make-up. Say your video comes out to 100MB when it's in one encoded DivX format and 70MB in another... Your program that's transcoding the video to put it on to DVD is going to change both videos to the same size (unless you did something in your encoding like decrease the video quality).
