Splitting Channels in Mp3 : Is it possible?
I want to know if it is possible to split channels in mp3 or wav as well, I'm trying to put together a song with two different singers, but I just want the voice of the second version...how can i do that?

A friend of mine told me to use Sonar Cakewalk, maybe that would help. What do you think?

there are no 'tracks' in an mp3.
An mp3 is a buncha data, and that data is used to generate a WAV. there are usually no 'tracks' in a WAV either.
Like SOAD said.... (soad said, heh) The next best thing you can do is get a wave editing program and use its filters/ graphic eq to isolate the sound from the wave you want.

Its SOAD (its an abbreviation) fyi, and also I'm pretty sure it's the other way around. WAVs can be used to generate MP3, but traditionally MP3s dont generate WAVs. Another technique you can try is using the Vocal Remover plugin for Winamp and inverting the channels, thats pretty tough to do since it doesn't directly change the equalizer bars in Winamp.sixstop wrote:there are no 'tracks' in an mp3.

However the issue still remains the same. Cakewalk/Sonar can't do it.
More or less most programs won't do it, they claim they can but realistically the results there are atrocious.
It is true that some forensic software is able to extract speech from background noise but the results are designed for intelligibility rather then the “musical” result you are looking for.
This topic has been mentioned on this forum several times in one form or another, but I feel the expectations people have are very distant from what can actually be achieved. I did touch on this topic briefly suggesting using the sum (mono) component of the audio VS the difference (Stereo) component in another forum, however I feel the results would be unsatisfactory, even for a disconcerting ear, unfortunately there is little that can be done to help you.
You may find references to phase correlation across this forum. I would suggest you avoid most of them. There are lot’s of unsubstantiated claims that are simply ridiculous and laughable. I would like to suggest some reading instead. "Music, Physics and Engineering" by Henry Olsen, you should find may answers and more.
