meh, i didnt read what everyone put, but using the accual video in the amv isnt new or as good as you may think... i've seen it done very poorly and decently, but in both they should have left the real video out and it would have looked better...

I have used this before, i took one of Korns videos (Alone I Break) and i took the static they used in the video and added it to my own alone i break video, i tried to also make it look like the accual korn video, but i wasnt expierenced enough to do it properly...

also Mr. Pilkington's Yatta video has popframes of the accual Yatta video, and it was done well... and if no one has mentioned it... (looks)
OMG, NO ONE HAS POSTED IT!

Sushi Boy Jared did a Totoro video using Apex Twin Come To Daddy, and he used the footage from the accual video and it came out to be GREATNESS!

but other then that i think it should be left out...

Whether or not he's seen any has nothing to do with it. A generic anime music video consists of anime and music, so his statement is correct.

There was a very nice video down with FLCL and clips from the Donnie Darko video Mad world:

The use of the music video scenes was very well intergrated into the AMV, and the video is just amazing...

I've seen a couple of vids not dbz's but still... personaly i dont like it at all. other then that its just copying someone's video and claiming it to be "standart" source realy... also what you say as you have less space to fill up well thats your own prob what way people would edite 20 % they like of the song and fill the rest in with the original music video... thats just lazzy and wrong in so many ways that i dont feel like explaining.

Hate to break it to you but ITS BEEN DONE a long time ago.

A guy named The Swither made a DBZ / real music video cross to Slipknot's Wait and Bleed back when using that song was still fairly original.

Its true that for the most part its all been done. But it hasn't all been done in the same way.

Just make an awesome video. Originality is in the editing and scene choices not the video idea. Its an amalgamation of factors really.
