Post by [Mike of the Desert] » Fri Jul 15, 2005 11:42 am

In your opinion since I don't want to play nothing until I'll now this.. What is the less invasive Player? In other words... What's the best player in your opinion?

I tried mplayer but sometimes it was crashing again and again.. But I would anyway know your opinion.

Media Player Classic: It's a little buggy at times, if you're trying to scrub your videos faster than your processor can handle, but it's the best overall because you can play Real Player and Quicktime files with it using the RealAlternative & Quicktime Alternative codecs.

Thanks also for the link. I found that player as you said a little buggy, especially with long videos, (like films or anime episodes), many times when I was restarting or powering off my computer it were flashing up with an big error asking if terminate his execution drastically even if I was not using it.

Thanks for the tip anyway is surely somehting I'll care about. :)

well, Sasami2k (my FAVORITE, been canceled though but still my FAVORITE) is simply JUST the video window. nothing else, seriously... not even a border. Put it on fast mode and you can use it on Pentium 1's without hickups (Divx3 but still)! In fact if you don't even want a window you can put the vid into your wallpaper! Love doing that with MADs.

Sasami2k is VERY buggy though (Korean, broken english instructions -_-)... if only other players were as good on SLOOOOW computers and could put the thing into your wallpaper ;p. But as far as nonintrusive like you can play .rm or .wmv files with it, MPC as was formally said. You have to d/l the real alternative and WM alternative (I think that's what the last one is called) packages and install them. and you CAN'T stream video with this!! Keep that in mind for stuff you can't d/l like movie trailors and stuff.

I hear a few others, Zoom, Chrystal, Winamp etc. can go boarderless but I can't figure them out lol.

Media Player Classic because of excellent handling and good performance.

VLC is also very neat and has an even better performance, great for playback if my system load is high. Also useable for mpeg2, mp4 and h.264 files. If only the handling would be better

I use winamp with 2x skins for everything that can be played back with FFDshow because of it's media library and audio format support. Whenever there is a video file that it doesn't support however I fall back to Media Player Classic. (Files such as Mpeg2, QT, and Matroska, and Real. Not many editors use these formats for distro however so I don't often need to use it.)

I occasionally use either Mplayer or Media Player Classic where ever I feel like.

I definetely use VLC Player where ever there's a school computer that doesn't have the necessary codecs.
