What is MKV?

And what is the difference between using avsyth on a vob file and this method?

So far I've only gone through the guides and I am still lost on some of the stuff that's floating around here.

Thanks.
Annoying, obnoxious and opinionated.

Using AVISynth on a VOB file will get you better quality (usually). Using MKV means that you're using downloaded footage.

VDM has always been buggy and slowly developed. There are better tools for the task, namely MKVExtract (as mentioned). Tools like MPlayer and graphedit will also do the job, if you're into that kind of thing.
