Since I am now living out in the Mid-West (well, I at least consider Lexington to be in the 'Mid-West'...), I checked with Antonio, the AMV Contest Coordinator for Otakon this year, to see if it would be possible to set up a pre-screening for the contest out in the mid-West in addition to the ones that have been held in the past along the East coast- and he expressed an interest in trying to set one up as well.
Obviously the most convenient for me would be to simply have one here in Lexington, but I want to try and make it convenient for the others that might be interested in coming as well. As such, I want to find out what would work out best for those who would plan on coming. Current proposed locations for it have been Indianapolis and Chicago, with Cincinnati and St. Louis being potential back-ups (since I have more connections there than Indy & Chicago). The date would likely be a weekend sometime in mid-July.
What I would like to find out- and if you don't want to post your response in the thread, please feel free to PM me- is
1. Which of the listed locations would work best for you, and how likely you would be to come for each of the potential sites.
2. If you happen to live in/near one of those cities, any suggestions you have for a location/venue- most ideal would likely be an anime club that has a place for a showing in front of a decent number of people.
3. What dates would work best for you.
4. Anything else in general you think is relevant.
The pre-screenings are not generally restricted to those who have entered the contest- in fact I at least think it's better to have a good number of those who haven't entered there to get a bit better of an input along the lines of what the audience at the con might be interested in. Please note though that if it does work out but has to be held in someplace with a limited amount of space, it may be necessary to limit how many people can attend.
Again, this is still in planning, and there's no guarantee that it will happen- but I'm definitely hoping that we can get it to work. The prescreenings in the past have been a lot of fun, and it's always a definite adventure watching through and rating the 8+ hours of videos.
