Sweden's OPETH have posted the following message on their official web site:

"We can now officially announce that OPETH has signed a worldwide contract with Roadrunner records. The rumours were true! The new album is set to be released sometime in the late August or early September of 2005.

"OPETH has cancelled their Vienna/Austria Aerodrome festival appearance (May 27) due to the recording taking longer time than expected. We are very sorry for the fans who expected to see OPETH there, but we hope to return to Austria as soon as humanly possible!

"The recording process is going well. One song is mixed and done, another one in the process of being mixed. Solos are being recorded as well as death screams. Some songtitles? 'Ghost of Perdition', 'The Baying of the Hounds', 'Isolation Years' and 'Harlequin Forest'. The record plan to be done by June 1.

"OPETH are most likely to appear at Bergen/Norway's Hole in the sky festival (August 24-27) as well as the semi legendary Summer Breeze (August 18-20) fest in Germany. We will confirm this as soon as it's....confirmed!"

Sweet. Hopefully they won't sell out now that they're on a big label. But I trust them, Opeth has always been original and challenging.

ARG!!

WTF?

Why even say something like, "hopefully they won't sell out?"

What in their history implies they are going to sell out?

*rants angrilly about the judgemental attitude of many metalheads and the abuse bands take from them*

On a brighter note, I am psyched to ear what they have in mind for the new album.
I fear the little people.

Roadrunner >_< WTF ?

But a band like Opeth, I think, will always make great emotional music no matter what label they're on. Can't wait to get the new album, it'll be the right way to start the coming Autunm season.

All he was saying is that bands sometimes are inclined to "sell out" when they get on a big label. I don't think saying he trusts Opeth's ingenuity is very abusive, but maybe that's just me.

With Mikael producing it, I wouldn't worry about them selling out.
