Soft edges and tiling

Post by Aneino_Kaijin » Mon May 16, 2005 5:48 pm

I'm looking to get a couple specific effects in a video I'm working on, and I need to figure out how to tile an image (16 copies on a 4x4 grid) and how to make a picture with soft edges, where the picture blurs a little around the sides. I have both Premiere and After Effects. Can anyone offer a suggestion. I've managed to get the soft edges look I wanted, but it took three layers, so it won't work for every place I need it.

In Premiere's video effects, use Replicate.

In Premiere's video effects, use Feathered Edges.

In After Effects, for the soft edge, just select the video layer and press ctrl+shift+N to create a new mask on the video. Then with the layer still selected, press "M" twice in succession to expand the mask properties. Adjust the feather and expansion to your liking.

For tiling, try Effect>Stylize>Motion Tile.

Blur, feather, or both at the same time?

Replicate and the After Effects masking got me the two exact effects I wanted. Thanks very much!
