Actually I posted this right after that whole incident when people went around calling you an ass and telling you to shut up for suggesting bands that they appearantly didn't like. So if it wasn't for you, I probably would never have posted this. XD
Hehe seems like I'm one of those guys. There's only one thing left to say: Metalheads unite to face the real enemy ... ... the crappy rap"music" hehe don't take me to serious ok ?

Hmm... well the thing is... that the reason that a band becomes mainstream is the fact that people actually like their music and buy their albums, so they become popular. No one chooses to be mainstream to be honest and it's not so bad. Mainstream is a GOOD thing in a sense, because their music is so good that they're well known, now. Remember, most if not all rock bands started out small.
Wow, you missed that one :P

I loathe the regurtitated shit. IE: Pop Princesses pumping out the same sounding bollocks, the boybands, ninety percent of the current emo scene etc.

I never said that all mainstream was crap.

Infact I like quite a bit of the mainstream, Godsmack, Bare Naked ladies, Blues Traveller, Queens of the Stoneage, RHCP, etc..

I am content with the existence of the mainstream, but I loathe the shitty cloning.
I fear the little people.

Oh, I thought you were talking about mainstream ROCK (the thread's topic, in a sense, now). OF course those pop princesses were made to be famous. Take Hilary Duff for example! She was designed to be a famous actress/pops star/future pr0n star. If she was already successful as an actress... she should've stuck with it
Be non-conformist! (Everyone's doing it!)
I guess Max Payne isn't much of a yaoi fan...

Why can't there just be two genres

The music YOU like and the music YOU dont like.

Simple

I get tired of people trying to break down music to the nth degree before you know it there going to a sub genre called extra crispy metal or tender'n'juicy" rock. Its stupid

I don't understand why people can't understand the convenience of genres. It's actually pretty simple. To someone entirely new to music, there are a few genres. Pop, classical, rap, jazz, techno, country, and rock/metal. Once someone decides what they like, they delve further into the broad genre and discover that several bands have similar sounds and several other bands have other similar sounds. So there are groups created, with a name attached to it that tries to describe the characteristic sound or quality. This way you can filter out what you will like and what you won't like with some degree of accuracy. Not everybody likes all music in a broad genre.

For example, I can say with near certainty that I won't particularly like Buried Alive because I don't like Candiria or Cattle Decapitation. Now a fan of hardcore will tell me the bands have drastic differences, but I don't really care because the primary characteristics of hardcore are unappealing to me. How do I know what the primary characteristics are? I listen to it and compare it to metal of a different sub-genre and see what the difference is.
