And driving school discriminates against blind people. If people are required to give better op then they will conform to what is expected. It's not like you have to write an essay.

I like ari's idea for a second section that is comprised of people who write "reviews" as opposed to your average "op".

Honestly I find the idea of saying "You can leave an opinion but it has to match these arbitrarily petty criteria otherwise the amv creator will cry" patronising, arrogant and selfish.

If you don't want the opinions - don't read them.

If you don't value the opinions - don't respond to them.

If you don't think the opinion scores are a fair assessment of a video's worth - ignore them.

The methods you propose will not promote more thoughtful opinions, nor will it promote fairer scoring. What it will do is slap people in the face when all they want to do is tell the creator how much they enjoyed the video.

I certainly do not think that the opinion system should be changed making it harder for normal users to leave comments just because some creators think some people's opinions are more worthy than others.

They're not? In a laboritory,a court room, a political debate, etc. a well infomred person in a spicific field can give his expert opinion on a subject and it categorically assumed to be better than that of some random person taken aside on the street and questioned. I can see where the determination of "expert" would be subjective rather than objective (i.e. word coun't would be pointless because people who have more advanced language skills often write in a clear consise manner, often using less words to say the same thing) but a clearly expressed opinion that is the result of some degree of effort and intelegent thought is usually taken more seriously (in many aspects of life) than "OMG THAT ROXORED!!!!!1"

Experts? Where?

Seriously this is a site where fellow geeks put cartoons to music and fans of those cartoons leave messages saying how much they liked them. Sure some opinions may be more eloquent or detailed than other but honestly I don't see why people should have to pass some test in order to leave opinions here. The idea is a pretentious delusion of grandeur.

If you want to consider your work as high art then sure, go ahead, but forcing regular folk who just want to leave a comment on a video to meet some vague idea of analytical competency is not only prescriptivist nonesense but it also goes against the spirit of the site.

This is not a court of law nor is it academia... heck it's not even high school. Teacher isn't going to be marking the opinion and there isn't going to be a test on this later. This site is as much for the people who watch the videos as those who make them. If the comments on the videos don't measure up to a creator's standards then that's just too bad.

As an administrator of the site I honestly couldn't say to a member "I'm sorry but your opinion isn't lucid enough to be on this site" because that kind of pretentiousness is disriminatory. This is the same principle behind why we don't remove videos from the servers that aren't worthy or use some cliche anime + music because who can honestly say that one is more deserving of having a place on the site than another.

I'm sorry, I just cannot endorse any idea that will restrict a well-meaning member from leaving a harmless and honest comment on a video they enjoyed.

X2 AD, i have to agree, i value all opinions as long as they have said something, and if there was nothing at all said i'd just request a deletion anyway, i don't understand why some people need to have their videos validated by some hack they've never even met and whos probably lives on the other side of the world for all they know.

I too agree with AD. However, while i dont think certain ops are more important than others, I do think that certain ops are billions of times more useful. I look at ops more for the comments than the scores so the less detailed ones are less usefull but I still like to see what people think of my videos adn therefore dont think they should be discounted.
