Adobe NEWS

There will probably be many more announcements from Adobe soon, but for now they have put out 2 press releases so far.

First, Adobe has announced that they are acquiring Macromedia.

This is a rather surprising move, and has many wondering what will happen to macromedia products now, as Adobe and Macromedia had some products that were direct competitors with one another.

Next, Adobe has announced that they are licensing rotoscoping technology from Curius Software.

Curius is often cited as having some of the best roto and video paint tools available, and poor roto has always been one of After Effect's main weaknesses. This is a very good thing for After Effects, I'm quite excited!

More news as it breaks. I'm personally hoping for an After Effects 7 announcement :)

My comp takes a while to load PDF as it is, we don't need to take 45 seconds or more to load one simple PDF file... I wonder how flash will turn out now since it's owned by adobe...

A better question would be how the SVG format will turn out. SVG is an open alternative to Flash, and was being pushed by Adobe. With the aquisition of Flash though, I figure that Adobe will probably stop pushing SVG in favor of their new baby.

Another possibility is that Adobe will kill Flash and integrate the useful features for SVG... HIGHLY unlikely though.

Although one thing is certain from this, Flash will interoperate MUCH better with Adobe software such as Illustrator and After Effects now. It will be nice to be able to export a real Flash from After Effects that is something more than just a video file embedded in Flash.

Oh, yay.

Now Adobe can stop suing Macromedia over frivolous interface patents and go sue someone else.

...Oh wait, they're doing that already. Maybe now they'll go patent the Flash file format and sue everyone attempting to make an interoperable Flash author or player.
