I was just wondering if there were any comic or anime conventions near the Kalamazoo or Grand Rapids MI areas that's all....I'm a noobie here by the way.

JAFAX at Grand Valley State University.
If you don't mind driving to SE Michigan, every November, the University of Michigan anime Club (Animania) runs an all day convention (sort of ) from 10am until 12am. I saw a total of 2 org people last year other than the 3 org people on staff.
