The only bad reviews I get is when they don't explain shit in the review. When I actually get descriptive reviews there a lot more meaningful. I hate when they say they like it but don't give much of an explanation why they like it.

I am both extremely competitive and creative. While I do create my videos out of creativity and could care less if they win in a contest or not, I do want them to get good ratings.

While nobody has quite given me a "you suck" flame for my AMVs yet, some of the reviews I have gotten were very vague. Plus they seemed to contradict what all other reviewers said. For example, one said "the audio is not so good" when everyone else was giving the audio in that AMV 9's and 10's and commenting on how clear it sounded.

That's because there are different levels of viewer on the site. Some people are very casual viewers, and anything that sounds good to them is excellent. Other people are true audiophiles with high-end sound cards driving expensive speakers and can hear tiny differences in pitch, speed, and timbre. Heck, when I first started making AMVs last year a 128 kbps mp3 encode of a song didn't sound significantly different to me than a CD copy. Now that I've trained my ears up, I can tell the difference. One of the reviews for a video I made states "sound has a slight echo" which I couldn't hear at the time and put down as their sound equipment. Just the other day, I was listening to the video and I heard it. :)

Video quality goes the same way. Some people are happy to see the characters through the pixellation, other people mark you down for the slightest unretouched scratch or speck that was in the original source. :)

Well I'm not a pro. I don't plan on making a career out of video editing. I just do it mainly for fun. It is a very healthy hobby and distraction. A good way to procrastinate on doing stuff for school that's not due for another month anyway.

I only mark audio down if I truly cannot make out the words or it sounds too low. For example- I could hear the castanets in a song for an AMV the other day, so I gave it a 10 even if someone with really top notch equipment may not think it was all that great.

If you want your videos to get good ratings then make good videos, and practice so your videos get beter. People are going to give you low marks. Its unusual if they dont. And to be completely honest, the vast magority of OPs on this site are rather generous. A great video can easily get 9 or 10, while an amazing video that sticks in your head will get similar results. its just that people are generaly too nice, and most people think 7 as a bit "meh" and anything bellow is on the wrong side of worth watching. A 7 is not as bad as most people believe it is. Its 3.5 stars. 2.1/3 . Its a good score, or it would be if people here werent so soft.

I agree with what's been told here. There's generally two kind of reviews with low scores - those that just want to point out that the video suck AKA flaming, and those that are trying to help. A generally nice thing to do when reviewing videos is to not only point out the bad stuff, but also point out the good.

And as bum said, people shouldn't be as nice with scoring. In all technicallity, 7 = good and not ok. 5 would be ok. 9 would be amazing and 10 would be excellent or close to perfect.

...because of how you voted?! You're sounding a little paranoid here, buddy. And not just garden-variety paranoid, I mean medication-level paranoid. I don't mean that to be an insult; it just worries me.

Listen to everyone here, and remember, you don't know what other people are thinking. No - you don't. Nor should you worry about it.

Everyone gets bad reviews, and if this is life or death to you... really, seek some help. I mean that in the best way possible. This is a fun hobby, but it is not worth getting that upset over.

That said, listen to everyone here - it happens. Just cope. Life goes on.

I am not THAT paranoid. It is not exactly due to whom I voted for- I am using an example that is a bit hyperbolic.

But I have had my creations flamed before not so much due to the creations per se, but due to my ideals not matching those of the flamers and some things I said on a bad day that I should not have said. It is one thing to point out how my fanfics/AMVs can be improved. It is another thing to mock them cruelly simply because of my um, biases and preferences that they disagree with.

It is not life or death to me. I have not lost slept over flames of my creations- but I have over flames of my career or character.

Somebody (cannot know who) just went around and gave a lot of my videos a one star rating and thus decreased their scores by over half a star. It brought ALL my videos down to below 3.0, even though one had like 3.5 and 3 had around 3.0.

Is there a way I can report this to a moderator?

NOBODY in particular is being accused of doing this, btw.
