Acen contest question: video length

Post by Corran » Thu Dec 30, 2004 4:10 pm

I want to start working on a video for ACEN but the song I'm considering is a little over six minutes long. Does anyone remember what the rules were from last year regarding video length?

I THINK it was up to but not exceeding 6 minutes. Or maybe 5 and a half. But, you should probably be okay.

If you can, try to cut the song's length down a bit. If 2005's contest turns out like 2004's, nobody is going to want to stay around for a 6-minute AMV in the middle of a 4-hour contest.

Plus, I think I saw a comment by SailorDeath on the ACen forums saying that they want to keep the contest down to 2 hours o_o

I'll try to cut it down a little... but this is a song that I really don't want to alter in any way unless absolutely nessesary.

Yes trythil is right on the 6 minute amv thing is really tough. It was hard for most of us to remain lucid for the duration of the contest. I think it was about 42 videos that made the cut for the contest this year and well..... AWA Pro had 58 and that is intended to be a long marathon that you watch in sections.

Although might want to check with SailorDeath on how he intends on revamping any amv rules. But the contest HAS to be shortened somewhat from what it was last year.

Actually, in the area of time limits, the contest is going to be 2.5 hours, last year's experiment in increasing the time to 3 hours showed me why other contests don't go for that long. (save AWA)

As for video time, the max runtime a video can be is 5 minutes.

The rules will be comming out about 3 or 4 days after the poll for theme ends (which can be found here: http://www.acen.org/forums/showthread.php?t=6102 ) for those who have already voted in the Poll that was on Yahoogroups, you don't need to vote again as I already have those votes

I also want to make one thing clear:
We will always get more videos than we can show, and after we've pruned out the ones that violate the rules, we have to start cutting ones that have nothing wrong with them. This also means that we'll start in categories that have more videos than the others, for instance, if we get 40 drama entries, and 20 action, We'll be looking at drama first to cut, and keep in mind, since I've been with acen, Drama has always been the most submitted to category, and Theme has been the least (last year I beileive we got close to 70 videos, HALF of which were drama, and we had a total of 5 theme videos. ) You can submit to any category you wish, but it's a pretty good indication of where we're going to start cutting.
Gimme a minute, I'll make a cool one....

Darn, I guess I'll have to save this video for a different con. ;_; Thanks for the clarification.

Good call... I increased Anime Evolution's contest to about 2.5 hours, and it seemed just a bit too long.... I think 2-2.5 is the max I would set for any contest I run.. Works with AWA since they only show the winners and thus best videos and there are three contests to watch....
