locking threads that shoudl be deleted
This is just my opinion on the matter, but take for example, the thread in General AMV, named "english dub"
In the threadm the user who posted it first asks if anyoen knows any sites that have english dubs for download. Then he states that he's not sure if it's against the rules to ask that, but then posts anyway.
2 posts later, both of people telling him it's against rules, the thread gets locked.
Where's the problem? People can still read it, and then get into contact with him about said sites where the illegal downloads can take place.
In other words, anyone can post asking these questions that are against forum rules, get their thread locked, and be contacted via PM or Messenger program later by some lamer who is sympathetic to their cause.
Final outcome: The locking of the thread was useless, and in fact, somewhat drew attention to it, AND there was still an exchange of illegal information which STARTED on these forums.
Solution: Delete said threads to prevent further reading of the request or info contained within. I bet any mod would delete a thread, or at least the link inside the thread, which contained a link to a site which provides said illegal downloads. How is the questioning thread any different?
Anyway, that's just my opinion. Such threads should just be purged from the site, no need to leave a reminder of their existance.

I definately second this. There was someone I talked to a while ago who gave me a site for full series, dual audio rips, OSTs, manga, ect, but nothing else. Just illegal stuff.
I nominate that any topics that have to do with downloading illegal stuff (except AMVs) shall be locked and deleted.

Where's the problem?

The lock button is closer to the scroll bar.

They do that a lot already; I've seen it often in the music forum at least.Garylisk wrote:That's also true, but maybe if you wanted to leave the thread up as an example, you could replace the text with something like [MOD: User broke site rule number (whtever), text removed.]
I dunno.

Sounds like a good compromise. I've seen this done elsewhere, but without the `broke rule #'...Garylisk wrote:That's also true, but maybe if you wanted to leave the thread up as an example, you could replace the text with something like [MOD: User broke site rule number (whtever), text removed.]
I dunno.
but really, the topic and the rule number tells you exacly what he asked for, so maybe this is not really an improvement.
I'd have to agree with the original post, the post should be deleted, and the user should get a pm about the rules and that the post was deleted.
23:19 (snip) I actually agree with everything quadir says.

Yes, but I PM them for them.Savia wrote:That last point's harder to implement as (almost all) the mods are hidden so they presumably can't PM people

Ah, I wasn't aware of how much work that would put channeled through one public adminastrator and if it were at all feasible
I guess that works, though.
