can't import .AVI files into adobe premiere 6.5...

i just got premiere today and i have lots of clips and 95% of them are .AVI files. i tried importing them into premiere but it says unsupport files type .avi or something like that and it says i can't import them. anyway to get past this problem? thanks in advanced

uhh, i have the DivX codecs already, but what does that have to do with importing .AVI files into premiere?

Well, if you did read it, you would get a pretty good understanding of how to handle with the source footage...

Premiere, like anything else on your computer, won't be able to open a video file unless you've got the codec it uses.

uhh well from the site that i got them from, it said they are all in DivX format, and you need the DivX codecs to play them. they do play and everything, but when i try ti import them, i get this exact message: "Unable to open that file. File uses an unsupported compression format"

Then use <a href="http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net">VirtualDubMod</a> to convert the clips you need to HuffYUV. Premiere has no problems working with that.
